1st post from new Eee PC 1000

I ordered this thing from Amazon.com yesterday morning & it arrived today. I've spend the last couple of hours playing with it & updating Windows XP. The 160GB hard drive seems to be 2 80GB partitions.

I want to install ubuntu on it but can't figure out how to get it to boot from the USB drive. The XP start screen shows up immediately after start rather than the BIOS screen I've always seen on regular PCs, so pressing F8 for Setup has no effect.

So far I'm quite impressed with this little computer!

Try hitting the 'Del', 'esc' or 'F2' keys before the boot screen comes up...

I'm out of town right now and posting from my EeePC Surf. Mine only has Linux on it and I've never tried to boot from a USB drive, so I can't be of much help. There are several EeePC forums though, so they might be able to help.

Congratulations on your new NetBook!

Pretty good instructions on the EEE Ubuntu page on how to make a boot disk/installer from a usb drive.

I have been running it for a few weeks, and my only complaint is that it boots much more slowly than the Xandros that came stock.

I decided to wait until my USB external CD drive arrives & install it from there.

Tell us when you can install OS X on it. That is the first thing I would try to do.

Life is too short and Windows and Linux are just too much trouble to deal with. I'll wait for a Mac version.
