My God, I feel OLD — my boy's been promoted to E-4!

Still trying to figure how he got to this point. Seems like just yesterday he was trying to get the hang of a skateboard.

Go Navy!

Actually, I am Air Force, where it takes a little longer to get promoted.

My wife's family are/were all Navy though and of course we are one big team.

Remember to tell him how proud you are of his accomplishments!

John

While you're on a high, perhaps you'd be willing to translate the following into spanish for me gratis:
"If you don't disable your car alarm you will find your windshield smashed".
A regional usage, maybe Durango or Tejas, would be a nice, but not necessary touch.

I suffer from the same sensitivity that you do. A few nuggets of wisdom were shared with me and I'm "trying" to incorporate them into my life. First, remember that nobody can hurt your feelings unless you let them. You can always reject what is being forced on you emotionally.
Second, nothing changes unless you change it. If you don't want the behavior to be repeated then you need to take action. Otherwise the kid has learned that his behavior is the way to get things done, because everyone lets him get away with it.
In the meantime I sympathize because I've been there.

Como no apagues la alarma vas a encontrar la parabrisa de tu auto bien rota.

If you don't turn off the alarm you're going to find the windshield of your car quite broken.

Want me to write you a few pickup lines, too?

You yourself didn't "get" it. Undoubtedly, that was from machine translation.

Okay, for some reason, I read that as my body's been promoted to E-4.

Congrats to your son. I wore that exact ensignia for a while. Until I was promoted to E-5, of course.

everything on board that needs juice and runs on circuitry EXCEPT nuclear propulsion

I did work on the nuclear stuff. I was a reactor operator.

More relief than pleasure, but thank you just the same.

WOW!

Reading this thread is like trying to make sense of a government document released through the, now useless, Freedom of Information Act.

Let it be noted that you could have let this pass unacknowledged, but you chose not to.
