what makes you feel as though you have "arrived"
Posted by: beerman

My father-in-law once told me that as long as he had $10 in his pocket every morning to go buy coffee or whatever he wanted at 7-11 he felt good about himself.

For me there are several things (not at once). A good cigar, a glass of wine or whiskey, a stint in the sauna at the club. These are the things that make me feel as though I've arrived.

What makes you feel special?

I can't think of anything for myself, but I remember my husband always said he'd consider that he'd "made it" the day he could go in a grocery store and buy whatever he wanted. That he did accomplish, and he loved to go grocery shopping, too.

Now, I happen to hate to shop, especially for groceries, so I sure haven't been eating as well ever since he died.

I feel good about the fact that I've been freelancing now for quite awhile (five years this coming March) and I'm better off and feel more secure than I did when I was an employee. I feel very fortunate, but I wouldn't have been able to sustain this without my own hard work. And while I'm not and never will be rich, I can think about things like a new camera and some lenses, or a new tv, things like that. But it's not so much about buying stuff. It is those small things that become real luxuries.

i am debt-free, and also feel comfortable enough in my own skin that i do not feel any pressure to "keep up" with the "joneses" or any other last name.

basically what Seacrest said but also that I have enough money now that I can use it to make more money. I have investments that are/were starting to actually be profitable. It isn't the profits but rather the mere act of making money using money as a tool.

At some point, I realized nothing would make me feel that way, and so now, I feel that way. Not all the time, but most of the time.

For me it's a plush set of 100% merino wool long johns, tops and bottoms.

I don't need much else. Except in the summer where I don't need them at all.

What makes me feel like I've arrived in the summer? Windblown rain from any direction but the South.

When I can turn off the car and go inside and hug my wife. I'm home.

oh, you mean 'financially' ? No idea. And based on the last couple of weeks, probably never.

The acceptance of Jesus Christ as my personal savior finally made me feel "arrived". Anything that happens to me in this life became a whole lot more petty.

Sorry for the "religious" post, I just needed to say this.

If we're being serious, then I would have to add that as long as my kids have a safe, happy home, I am "arrived." Of course, I want to be there to share it with them, so there is some aspect of personal attachment to all of it that is undeniable.

Having enough time to pray and meditate.

Oh, and a MacPro with three 30" monitors, and a desk and office big enough for them--along with a 17" MPB and a Macbook Air.

If I can afford to get my hair cut every 2 weeks, I have 'arrived.'

I have a nice house and some material things... But, I've never felt like 'I've arrived'. I still feel like I'm chasing (or, being chased).

But, mostly, I feel like the rug can be yanked from under my feet at any moment.

Deep thoughts... by Bosco.

I like when my GPS system tells me, at the end of my journey, "you have arrived." That's always nice to hear.

I am not Ryan Seacrest, and I do not approve this message.

I remember standing in one of the bedrooms of my house when we were looking at buying it four years ago and looking out at the other houses in the neighborhood. It's a modest neighborhood with houses built in the 70s and 80s - but everyone has kept them up nicely. I was moving there from the "other side of town." Anyway, as I was standing there, looking out the window, I thought to myself, I've arrived!

Now after having been here for four years and dealing with all of the leaves and tree branches every year, it's a bit different feeling smiling smiley However, I still really like the new 'hood.

I'm in a fairly safe neighborhood (is anything totally safe?), have a loving wife, and two wonderful kids. I'm not sure what else there is?

Good topic!!!
