He's in an acoustic mood for the latest album, similar to Harvest.

Jack Black was pretty good too (musically).

I have always liked Neil and have seen him on a number of tours including
the Rust Never Sleeps, Trans, and a few others. I went with a bunch of friends
to see him when he did the This Notes For You tour - he had a great band
with a full horn section.

We were heading back home on a fairly deserted interstate when we came upon
a tour bus with "Buffalo Springfield"painted across the back of the back

We pulled up beside them and one of the guys pulled out a t-shirt from the concert
and held it up to the window - the bus driver flipped off the headlights
(running lights on) and turned on the interior lights

We could see a Neil and the band, a drink in hand giving us a toast and waving.
We proceeded up the road having just been toasted by the band.

A small gesture but said volumes about how he feels about the fans

Watching it and taping it. It goes on the DVD with the four-night Conan O'Brien appearances. I heard the promos he and Black did for the show were pretty funny. Hope I can get copies of those too.

For some reason, Neil seems to be one of the artists who remained true to himself.

"Comes A Time"

Comes a time
when you're driftin'
Comes a time
when you settle down
Comes a light
feelin's liftin'
Lift that baby
right up off the ground.

Oh, this old world
keeps spinning round
It's a wonder tall trees
ain't layin' down
There comes a time.

You and I we were captured
We took our souls
and we flew away
We were right
we were giving
That's how we kept
what we gave away.

Oh, this old world
keeps spinning round
It's a wonder tall trees
ain't layin' down
There comes a time.

Phil,

Too bad he doesn't feel the same way about his mediocre talent!

I don't agree. He's not the best voice by far but a fine songwriter and puts on
a hell of a show, or at least he used to. I haven't seen him live in many years.

BTW jimmy - I saw the Rust Never Sleeps tour w/ Crazy Horse at Elliot Hall
and it was one of the early stops on the tour - album was just out and
we had not heard it yet

Imagine seeing the opening set - all acoustic with all the then standards
like Cinnemon Girl, Sugar Mountain etc ...
Second set opens with the jarring opening chords of Hey Hey My MY
and guys running around in hooded robes and glowing red eyes

We knew something had changed at that point. Walked out not sure what
we had just witnessed but it was definitely a big change

Love him or hate him he does what he wants and doesn't care what popular opinion is.
It seems like everyone (rest of music industry) is always catching back up to him.

If you can get to the SF Bay Area in late October, Neil plays live every year (usually along with Crosby, Stills and Nash and many others) at the all-acoustic Bridge Benefit Concert. His wife has been sponsoring the concert for years. I went this year and it was fabulous. They played all the old songs and some of the new too.

You got that right. Probably explains why most of his catalog doesn't sound dated like many of his contemporaries. Like Mr. poo, I once though Neil a mediocre talent. Then I actually listened to his music and realized just how wrong I was.

The last time I saw him was on the CSNY tour a couple of years back. Man, what a great show. Even Crosby, who didn't move around that much, played like a demon. They may be a bunch of old codgers but they didn't play like it that night. One of the most gracious things I've ever heard a musician say was from Crosby on the VH1 "Legends" show devoted to Young. He said that Neil was better than the other three of them put together and he's right.

I wanted to see SNL but we were out last night. The good news is, they run their episodes like 2/3 times per season so I am sure I can see it in a month or two.
