Reinstalling logic board in a Tibook-do I nned thermal paste?

I notice a bluish residue that's on the processor chip where it contacts the heatsink. Seems like some kind of thermal compound.

Can I just stick everything back together as is or should I get some thermal paste somewhere? Tx for any advice!

If it has that little rubber item on the underside of the heatsink you probably don't need it.

If not, get the best silver heat transfer paste you can buy. Sure it costs a little more for a rare use, but vs. the cost of a daughter card?

I'm not sure about that "rubber item" you mention. This bluish stuff is more "rubber" than paste-like though:

Maybe some sort of special Bubble Gum--you could taste it to check the flavor-LOL

Interesting.

The Pismo has a similar heatsink, but there is a little polymeric square, as well as the slight remnants of a thermal compound.

(I could have added it for all I know)

I'd keep checking. You might not want to scrape it since it is molded around that dome, but then.... without someone like OWC Jamie or another person who's had a TiBook that far open to chime in... I'm shuttin' up!

I used the macfixit guides to guide me in getting the board out. It doesn't mention anything special about reinstalling it--just to "reverse the directions."
