I'm going to Germany and don't want to lug my Powerbook but need to be able to transfer my photo's and movies to a storage device.

Anyone know of a deal? I can't seem to find one.

Thanks

What does the camera use? I would just bring extra SD cards. Also, you may want to reconsider bringing your PB. It isn't much trouble at all to bring one .........

SD/CF cards are cheap these days

I got 3 SD and 3 CF, 4 GB each for free after rebate (well, after shipping they were like $1.50 each). Look for a similar deal.

yes, I got the rebate cards.

This sounds like a job for.....wait for it....a Mini 9!!

Built in SD/SDHC/MS slot, it would let you view the photos at a decent size, and give you that all important internet capability, all in a neat, compact package weighing less than 2 1/4 lbs.

Someone makes a 2.5" Hard drive case that can automatically copy the contents of your SD or CF card without use of a computer. That could get you a couple hundred GB extra storage. Not sure how much $ though.

I remember reading about this, do you have a link?

Also, there was an adapter for iPod that did a similar task.

Here's a relatively cheap one from Amazon ($75-$90, depending on which vendor you choose).

It's only for video transfer.

That looks like something in the ballpark. I wonder if I can transfer video from my flip video? There is a mention of USB but the reference is for loading to the computer.

I need something more for saving "flip videos" than for SD cards.

Thanks AA......

That looks like what the doctor ordered. I can put my iPod video to use.

My only concern is the bad reviews on the apple site.

Anyone with personal experience?

I'd vote for the extra SD cards. That's what I ended up doing.
I have an iPod Camera Connector. You can have mine if you want it. Loved the idea, but for me it was more of a hassle than anything else. Maybe it works better for other folks.

In my case, I used it for the first week of a trip overseas. I needed it to offload my cards each night, but turns out I couldn't trust it. It took a long time, and sometimes the fully charged iPod battery wouldn't be enough, causing it to fail before finishing. Sometimes this would leave some photos transferred, and sometimes I'd have to redo the whole card. You can't charge your iPod while it's connected. Finally, since I needed to make sure I had cards available for the next day's adventure, and I couldn't trust it to do that, I just bought cards more at the first opportunity.

Over the holidays I took advantage of a deal where I bought three Sandisk 4GB SDHC cards for free after rebate. Added to my other cards, now I can go quite a while between iPhoto imports.

Either way you go, good luck and have a great trip! smiling smiley
