I bought a 10lb bag of ice....from Sonic!

Yes, that Sonic. The drive-in, sit in your car and eat Sonic.

I've been an ice muncher for as long as I can remember. I love my drinks to have ice and I eat all of the ice before I'm done. I'm particularly fond of crushed ice.

I've even got my 4 and 2 year olds started early (much to my wife's consternation).

However, recently we went out to eat at a local Italian restaurant and they had the best ice I've ever tasted. It's not really crushed ice...it's more like what is called "chewable" ice, or pearl ice, or nugget ice, or, yes, "Sonic" ice. I believe our hospital ER has this type of ice, but our hospital cafeteria does not.

Anyway, with a little help from Google, I found that I'm not the only one with this fetish.

That's how I found out about Sonic and, luckily, one opened up relatively close to our house.

I even looked into a home ice maker that would create this lovely delicacy, but it looks like the cheapest "home" model is around $2000.

So, if you're into ice like me, check out your nearest Sonic. I paid $2.05 for a 10lb bag.

EDIT: And, no, I'm not iron deficient or anemic.

Do you have an iron deficiency? Just curious, as ice chewing is often a sign. I have an iron deficiency (don't eat red meat) but I don't really like ice.

McDs does this. I was just commenting to wife that this is a good thing. They could or might as well sell milk/bread/eggs (the STORM foods), too. Why NOT?

It's really hard on your teeth. One of the worst things you can do, or so my dentist says.

I can't believe that Sonic's ice would be hard on your teeth. I love it too. It's not as hard as other ice. It's in little round pellets, and it's sort of pourous, not a solid chunk of ice. Really gets the drink cold, and it takes on the flavor of the drink too. I've not chewed on it without a drink having been on it though.

My dad told me how his younger brother would go over to the coop and eat chicken droppings when they were kids.

He said he did it because he had a deficiency in his diet.

i never tracked down the reason for the connection but after a blood test at a check up, my physician asked me if i had a craving for ice. i was stunned because i hadn't mentioned to her that for months i had been buying bags of ice a few times a week from walmart; my son used to tease me about my ice fixation. i told her yes and she wasn't surprised - my test results showed i was severely anemic. took me almost a year to clear my body up.

Ice is best served bathed in booze.
