MacBook backup question

I recently got a MacBook Pro and I need to establish a backup routine. I use one firewire drive with two partitions for my backups, 1 for desktop, 1 for notebook. I have figured out the CCC works with the intel macs.

My real question is can I reformat just the notebook partition of my firewire drive with the GUID format required by the intel macs?

Any advice?

Well it looks like this won't work. According to Apple it is all or nothing on the format scheme. Maybe there is a third party app. I probably needed another drive anyway.

Wasn't SuperDuper just updated for this?
