What's your earliest purchase on Amazon.com?
Posted by: volcs0
Date: June 24, 2009 09:59PM
I just checked, and my first recorded Amazon purchase was on 12/1/98, and it was for the video, "It's Potty Time."

Man, I don't miss those days...

My earliest was about 5 a.m. Oh, did you mean how long ago was my first purchase on Amazon? I was late to the party, so not until 2002. It was the first year my daughter in law created an Amazon Wish List for Christmas, essentially forcing me into it. I guess I should thank her!

My order history only goes back to 1999. I don't recall whether I used Amazon before then under a different name.

My first order in 1999 was the C Shell Quick Reference Guide and SAMS Guide to the VI Editor, both of which are excellent desk references for a UNIX novice. smiling smiley

I did business with Amazon back as early as 1996 - but it was selling - my boss at the time had written a couple of books which were listed on Amazon, but not carried in stock - so a couple of times a month I had to package some up and send them off to one of the fulfillment warehouses.

I probably ordered stuff from them earlier than 1999, but that's as far back as my history goes on Amazon's site.

In January 1999 I bought a copy of AppleDesign: The Work of the Apple Industrial Design Group and a CD compilation entitled Ocean Of Sound, which was a companion to the book of the same name, chronicaling the rough history of ambient music.

I paid $36 for the AppleDesign book. Somebody on Alibris wants $250 for a copy of it today. eye popping smiley

A bunch of Carl Hiassen books in April 2000.

I think that was before a cruise. Hiassen is good cruise reading.

December 5, 1998 - The Filemaker Pro 4 Bible.

I still have that book... Getting a little dated for Filemaker 7 though... (And I'm still behind the curve since Filemaker is up to v 10).

Paul, imHo, that book serves you well since FM has suxored making any bigtime changes. It's just had its lashes done, and perhaps a mani-pedi once or twice. ;)

I still find myself referring to the Filemaker 6 Bible more often than the 4 edition :-)

In the late 90's to early 2000-ish my business all went to Outpost.com Free overnight shipping on any size order with no tax. Amazon.who?

Then it shifted to Urbanfetch.com (in Manhattan) for about a year... free warm cookies or tshirts with your order which was delivered to your door by a bike messenger for FREE within one hour. Needless to say that company didn't last too long. LOL

Then it was Amazon ever since.

Yeah, I remember using Outpost for $1 or $2 items and always receiving them the next day. Obviously it was a loss leader for them, but I loved being able to get stuff that quickly (even ordering late in the evening only to receive it less than 12 hours later).
