Recommend a Clint Eastwood movie for 78 year old Mom

She wants me to order one from Netflix for her. I have no idea which one she would like. She likes love stories and movies where the protagonist is continually in danger. Nothing too racy.

How about this PBS special about him, career and movie clips...

It is a Flix item and she could choose what others she might want to see.

My favorite movie of this type is Marathon Man, Dustin Hoffman, 1977. A real nail biter!

I always liked FireFox. Not something a older lady would necessarily like, probably.

She'd like Bridges of Madison county.

Hmmm--love and danger and Clint Eastwood...

How about Play Misty for Me? It has Clint in a love story with his old girlfriend and being stalked by a suicidal/murderous wacko woman with a knife. More violence than sex--a naked rear or breast might show up, as I recall, but there is an attempted suicide scene with slit wrists and blood.

Play Misty for Me--terrific first director effort and a little-known independent movie from that era. Very, very low budget. Great travel brochure for Carmel. It's a grainy B movie, with a very late sixties early seventies hippie quality to it. Examples: a long meandering scene in the middle at the Monterey jazz festival, all shot on location. And a nude frolic-in-nature-with-rock-music-in-background scene a lot of people didn't remember was there. A classic slasher flick, with good performances. Not what I'd think of to recommend for an elderly grannie type. But timeless, an interesting suggestion.

How about...

In the Line of Fire

Clint's a hero. Lots of fun danger. John Malkovich plays a great bad guy.

his singin' is unforgettable. . .

And unforgivable. But a fun movie nonetheless.

Also, Play Misty For Me, In the Line of Fire (a *touch* racy), Dirty Harry, and The Gauntlet (not one of my favorites) are good choices.

Another vote for “Play Misty for Me.” First thing that came into my mind.

Speaking of Clint Eastwood, I got to watch the extended English version of “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” on cable a few nights ago. What fun!

So the standoff at the end was even longer?

If she's a fan of westerns, I don't see how she could go wrong with Unforgiven. That's classic Clint.

Truthfully, I hadn't seen it for such a long time that I couldn't tell you just what was extended about it.

I was in a Western mode that day, so “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” was proceeded by John Wayne in Rio Bravo.

I recently got my dad to watch Firefox when he was in town. I loved it when I was a kid but I think it dragged on when we were watching it together. The Every Which Way flicks are always funny.

I'd be inclined to recommend his big budget commercially successful later-day movies, "Million Dollar Baby", for example, as opposed to no-budget grainy film-school type projects from 40 years ago like "Misty". Give her the hollywood success stuff!

I got her "Million Dollar Baby". I think that's the one she was wanting. She wants to see the ones that are advertised heavily and talked about on Entertainment Tonight. Then, "Bridges" is on deck for her.
