Best vacation to punish one's lousy family?

Not going at all is too obvious a punishment.
Just for grins and giggles, let's say your family has been a royal pain in the butt.

What are some creative locales/destinations/etc. where the appearance of trying to have or plan a vacation is there, but in reality has a high suck factor?

My enjoyment will be watching them suffer, silly.

Or, you've given me a good idea. Book NONrefundable tickets, and fake a broken leg.

Usually a family vacation is a compromise between what the kids and parents want, or between what dad and mom want. Plan your own vacation and invite them to come along if they like, but it will be YOUR vacation. Or just plan something for yourself. "Later everyone, I'm going on a two day fishing trip." The ungrateful can take care of themselves. :-)

All seriousness, take them to national parks in Utah such as Arches. The hiking will do them good. Just pack enough water. That should toughen up your wiggle smileysoft family

Is this immediate family (wife and kids), or extended family (in-laws, aunts, uncles, etc.)? If extended, and you really want a doozie of a lousy vacation, grab your sunglasses and head to the nude beach. Then, make sure you don't sit/lay together with all of them.

As a twist on the Disney World thing, tell them you want to take them to the beach in Florida. Just make sure to take them to one of the east coast beaches (the gulf coast beaches are much nicer). Take them somewhere like Cocoa Beach. Everyone thinks Cocoa Beach is nice, as it sounded glamorous on "I Dream of Jeannie". Cocoa Beach is really a dump. In summer, the sand is like 200 degrees. And the humidity combined with the heat can be life-sapping. And tell them, that to save money, you've booked a hotel that's along the river. If the wind is blowing the wrong (right) way, the stench will knock them over. And the mosquitos!

The only bad part of this plan is that the Kennedy Space Center is nearby, and that really is a fun place to visit. Just tell them that it's closed or something.

Cocoa beach is the most recent beach we've been to. When we went it was nicer than I expected. But, yeah, I am not a big AO beach fan.

Everglades Tour and Camping.

WIth tents that JUST make it past the alligator test.... but you can still hear them growl outside
all night waiting for food to emerge.

You take the A/C pop-up. Everyone else gets to rough it (your allergies to Mangrove Trees...)

========= better yet -- get a "motel" in Pahokee, FL - on Lake OKEE. If you've seen the YouTubes on
Oniontown, NY, this is the same! Only better! And EVEN BETTER if Lake OK is down to crusted mud.

Look about "5 o'clock" on the map. The prison is near too.

Yikes. Sounds like you need to go on a divorce court vacation.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Yuma, Az in summer. Be sure to visit the old prison. Just outside Yuma was where Star Wars 3 (original, 6 now; Return of the Jedi) was filmed.

They can camp for free in my backyard, but they will need to mow it ... and pick up the dog poop.

I have a couple of extra labs this week so there will be plenty of poop for everyone !

Three things to look for in the perfect "vacation from Hell in Florida":

1. Sand spurs

2. Biting Dog Flies

3. Jellyfish

Those three, actually any two of those three, are enough to make anyone miserable at the beach.

This is a variation of a Jack Handey "Deep Thought". Which gives me an excuse to post one of my favorites: If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

In California, how about Death Valley where it's 124 in the shade today and for the next two days. Dropping off to 119 the rest of the week. Ah, it's only 103 here in the sunny San Fernando Valley where you could stay at the Pixie Motel and dine at "Dr. Hogly-Wogly's Tyler Texas BBQ" and biofuel station.
