Well, her heart was filled with gladness when she saw those city lights. She said the prettiest place on earth is Baltimore at night.

Long way from the Lowell George Era (1969-1979)...

I last saw them preform about two weeks before he died!

Yes that was 30 years ago and I am old and getting older!

i hope he gets what he needs

but it is hard to believe that he played for 40 years and has a family and just never bought any health insurance or saved any cash, was he hoping he'd never age?

Yeah, it wasn't like he's been indigent all these years. I have sympathy for his plight but I do have health insurance so my ever-escalating premiums prevent me from contributing anything.

I've known Richie very well for 35 years. While he has played forever, when James Brown sang "give the drummer some!" he was talking about love not money.

Songwriters make money, band members make a living, if they tour continually.

While non of us are angels, Richie deserves at least your prayers and a buck or two if you can spare it.

He has been critically acclaimed as one of the best drummers in the world, in any genre. It's too bad it's come to this. Like most artists, you have to work a full day, the day you die, so you can afford to get buried.

God bless Richie.

Interesting how if he lived in most any other industrialized Western nation, he wouldn't have to worry about certain things.

Also, no offense to anyone in this thread, but saying things like didn't this guy think to get health insurance/save any money is just...well, in poor taste. Besides which there may be other factors at work...maybe his ins booted him for "pre-existing condition" or some other bs which they are well-documented at doing. Or maybe like millions of other Americans, he just could not afford health insurance. Not trying to make this political. Just...

Have a heart, friends.

Especially for Richie, a genuinely nice guy...as well as a world class talent.
