Blocked from Bidding by eBay Seller
Posted by: mjgkramer

I was just now blocked from bidding on an eBay stamp auction that I would have won by a seller I have done business with in the past. I have a 100% feedback rating with 345 or so transactions and have never had any problems with this seller. I always pay within minutes of close of an auction I have won. Is there any way to find out from eBay why I was blocked? I sent the seller a message asking why but don't have faith that he will respond.

Where are you located? I sometimes block buyers from certain geographic regions that I'm not willing to ship to.

Aside from that I don't know why he would block you - probably didn't block you personally, there must be something else with your account.

DRR - I live in New Braunfels, 30 or so miles north of the seller, who proudly notes that he lives in the home town of the San Antonio Spurs. All I can think of is that I used eSnipe.com to bid, but there's no way he can know that.

Is there any way to find out who all might have blocked me from bidding?

No way to find out. He could have you on a blocked bidders list.

That is odd. We only block bidders that we have trouble with. It's quite
a lengthy list. Sellers always back-up Blocked Bidder List as about 6 years
ago eBay lost almost everyone's BBL through some computer glitch, ours was
one of them. I keep it backed-up as a simple text file. I added one
just the other day because it took him almost 3 weeks to pay for 3 items worth
nearly a $1000. Had to file a Non-Paying Bidder Alert and that was enough
to wake him up. I think 3 strikes would have closed his account, haven't
heard pee-turkey out of him since. I got signature delivery on all his stuff
and took pictures of as we boxed it showing how he wanted boxed,
one was a McIntosh Tuner and if familiar with high-end audio you'll know that
it doesn't much higher end than that stuff. I also blocked one because he said
wasn't going to pay for because he bought by accident, it was a By It
Now. You don't buy things by accident there's to many steps to go through.

He may have blocked you by mistake, looking up the wrong auction for some buyer's i.d. Not unbelievably likely, but possible. (or maybe if you won his past auction for what he thought was a giveaway price, and the seller isn't hip to sniping...)

If you haven't already, remind him you've successfully done biz w/him in the past, and request to be removed from the list.

Psurfer - here's what I sent to him minutes after the auction closed. Hopefully he will respond. He has some nice stamps in his auctions and has been good to deal with until now. My max bid on eSnipe was a good bit higher than the high bid he got in what was a very active auction.

"Dear georgetownlaw,

Why was my bid blocked on this auction? I have a perfect feedback rating and do not recall ever having done anything to warrant your doing that. I have bought from you in the past with no difficulty. - Thanks

Mike Kramer"

The stamp is part of a divorce settlement.
Seller has to split proceeds with ex.
Lowest possible end price sought.

I routinely block bidders that I see bidding on my macs while simultaneously bidding on others. I DON'T want someone to bid on several similar auctions from several sellers then leave the others in the cold while proceeding to complete the one that gives him the best deal.

Often they are amazed that I would do such a thing.

If you're not involved with shady bidding practices, I gotta think that it was a mistake.

Could also be something horrible - got a Jewish surname? You get the idea.

If they don't reply, you shouldn't want to deal with them either due to, if nothing else, sheer incompetence.

Could also be that you had a disagreement with another different seller. Lots of people who sell in the same market share their blocked lists with other sellers.

Just recently started buying stamps after a long lull but have had nothing but good relations with all sellers. Most likely it was a mistake, but I am going to press him until I get an answer.
