Smog Check California & Consumer Assistance Program, Anyone Dealth with it?

This 93 Geo Prizm, that has a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT on. If it fails the Biennial smog check, and I spend $100 trying to fix or diagnos it, California will help me fix it up to another $500.

Has anyone ever dealt with this option, and the State.

Thanks.

No info on the assistance program, but the CEL illuminated is an automatic failure regardless of the actual emissions test results.

Anyway to get the code read/reset before you take it in for the test?

Edit: I don't know how much OBDI diagnostics track/store, but on OBDII vehicles, there has to be a certain number of restarts logged without the CEL coming back on before it will pass. Just getting it reset right before you get tested will not work.

Yup CEL will fail you.
My truck CEL light is always going on and off. Problem with a connector.

Smog Passed, except light is ON. What would cause a CEL to be on, but have LOW CO NO, and pass with flying colors.

Will unplug battery and see if it stays off. A month ago, when I put in a new radiator, I replaced the O2 Sensor, and today, before having it smogged, I replaced the Air Filter.

Will try and read the code for the CEL, when I find the OBD connectors as mentioned earlier in the thread.

My truck gives me the check engine light. After checking the codes, it said bad O2 signal. Read up on it and found that it is a common problem with my truck year. Some people put some dielectric compound on the connector to increase conductivity.
