What's a simple way to backup both a Mac laptop and desktop PC?

A cheap NAS of some kind? Something that can connect to their router? iTunes server might be a plus.

Let's say the goal is to backup user accounts automatically but not necessarily apps or OS. Let's not try for redundancy or RAID due to expense. I don't want to come back and claim the only way to do it is to spend $500 or whatever.

Oh, you WOULD ask me that. Beats me, it's not my stuff. Let's say, not a terrible amount for either. $150?

how about TWO of these:

Verbatim 250GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive for $45 after rebate + free shipping
Buy.com offers the Verbatim 250GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive for $64.99 with free shipping. This $20 mail-in rebate (paid via a Visa prepaid card) knocks it down to $44.99 ($0.18/GB). That's $5 under our May mention and the lowest total price we've seen by $3. This 5.2-oz. drive runs at 5400 rpm. Rebate expires November 8.

or

Iomega Prestige 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive for $80 + free shipping
Today only, Dell Home offers the Iomega Prestige 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive, model no. 34275, for $79.99 with free shipping ($0.08/GB). Although that's $5 over our September mention, since expired, that's still the lowest total price we could find for this drive by $15. Sales tax is added where applicable. This 7200 rpm drive features an 8MB cache.

both at dealmac, lots of others to choose from...

I can't seem to find it now but someone just announced a dongle to plug a USB or SATA drive into a network. It is essentially a $45 mini server. The closest thing I can find is the $100 Seagate FreeAgent DockStar.

Use one Verbatim with SuperDuper! for the Mac, use the other Verbatim with Acronis TrueImage for the PC (Western Digital gave away Acronis free awhile back, they might still offer it).

You're rich, gas is cheap -- step on it!!
