Friend of mine has a 52" 120Hz 1080p LCD HDTV. He just got a Blu-ray player. I told him don't by the HDMI cables from any of the local stores because they'd be very expensive.

I tried monoprice, but they only had the thick cables (meant for in-wall runs), which are gonna be harder to bend/route around his living room (much less make the 90 degree bend when it ulitmately plugs into the HDMI port on his TV).

At 16 feet, he probably doesn't have to worry about cable quality that much, but I'm gonna guess he'll still need HDMI 1.3 Catagory 2 cables (due to the 1080p Blu-ray to 1080p TV)?

What about this [www.newegg.com]? Good reviews, but in the specs I can't find anything about HDMI 1.3 or Cat 2, though it seems to state nonsensically "Fully HDCP compliant to Provide highest level of signal quality"

Or this [cgi.ebay.com]? Says it's v1.3 Cat 2, and seller has good ratings. But I wonder about the quality/durability. Haven't heard of the brand (probably some kind of generic name).

I'd probably go with newegg.

I wouldn't worry too much about quality of cable for 16 ft. It's digital so either it'll work or it won't. I'd worry more about quality when you start getting longer runs.

specs, for the most part, utter nonsense. It's digital, if the cable is of decent quality, you'll be fine. I went thru this nonsense with the head of video for a major broadcast operation.
Just get from a reliable source.

He can also get a 90 degree adapter if he has problems with it behind the HDTV.

Those adapters seem interesting, he may definitely end up doing one of those to get up into the TV.

I'd love to do Monoprice, but they don't have it in the length (I'm gonna interrogate him tomorrow) my friend claims to need in the thinner stuff (which is important since he'll be routing it around things). The in-wall stuff I suspect is gonna be too hard to bend around things (I've got one).

This is a 15 ft model. I have the 12 ft version and it works great. Nothing like the very thick "in-wall" cable. This one is very flexible. Hopefully 15 ft will work.
