Three of my favorite actors in a story that looks potentially very well done. Really looking forward to it.

I question the casting and what I see of the storyline.
I was huge SH reader/fan growing up.

I thought that movie had already come out, and flopped. Go figure.

Arthur Conan Doyle didn't need to resort to explosions and daring stunts from Holmes to make him popular. It was his mind and power of deduction that intrigued people. Much like House, a medical mystery show who's protagonist in some respects is similar to Conan Doyle's Holmes, House uses his mind to come up with solutions to people's medical mysteries.

There is no shortage of faithful adaptations for the purists & fetishists.

On the other hand, some of the faithful adaptations are dreadfully dull, compared with the actual novels & short stories.

In some respects? Holmes/House, Watson/Wilson, brilliant deduction but lazy & misanthropic, drug use, amateur musician, living at 221-B...

That's a lot of pesto.

I thought this was going to be about Action Johnson.

Looks ridiculous. Holmes would never put up with such fanciful nonsense.

Want to watch a good film that is faithful to the tradition? Rent "Dr. Bell and Mr. Doyle." It is loosely based on Arthur Conan Doyle's use of the real Dr. Bell as the model for his fictional Holmes. Dr. Bell apparently did forensics for Scotland Yard, and utilized the same method of inferring facts about a person's life and circumstances from seemingly incidental clues. The film is a great period piece and very entertaining, though the ending is rather sad. I recommend it.

On the one hand, Jeremy Brett's Holmes on the BBC series that ran on PBS here is a wonderful, fun, entertaining and very faithful version of Doyle's books.

On the other, to make a James Bond movie and set it in late 19th century London just so they can cash in on the fame of the character... I'll pass, or (since I like the cast and it looks great) at least limit my monetary support to a matinee.

I don't mind the movie.
Just don't call it Sherlock Holmes.
Remo Williams circa ...1800s

I don't recall any of Fleming's Bond novels taking place in the 21st century, either.
