G4 Cube won't sleep

Our Cube is upgraded with a PowerLogix 1.8 GHz processor and an Nvidia GeForce 6200 256 MB video card. The Cube would sleep after the upgrade, but no longer does. It will not go to sleep automatically. When put to sleep manually, with the power button or the menu, it appears to go to sleep, but the power switch stays solid. A few seconds later it wakes up. The screen saver does work. Running OS 10.5.8, 1.06 GB memory.

Everything else seems normal. Any suggestions on how to get sleep working again?

Thanks.

Have not tried it without USB devices. We use a Microsoft wireless mouse with it, plugged into a powered hub. We also have the Cube USB speakers plugged into the monitor. The monitor is on a separate power supply (ADC power supply for a DVI video card). The keyboard is also plugged into the USB hub.

I could try it with the keyboard plugged into the Mac directly and a Mac mouse, but that does not really solve the problem as that's not how we want to use it.

Did you check that the PRAM battery was OK?

I thought they last for YEARS, he's brand new. And he was in stock for only 9 months, I know the PRAM battery cannot be older than that smiling smiley

I upgraded his diaper, that didn't help either. I installed him in the swing, that worked for 10 minutes or so. Finally I gave up and woke up the wife and told her to stick the nipple in the mouth port and the solved the problem for another hour or so.

I am really tired this morning

Yeah, but if removing those devices solves the problem then you can add 'em back one at a time, find out which one's causing the trouble and look for updated drivers or suitable replacements.

Good thought. I've tried removing the FireWire devices, but not (yet) the USB.

Yeah, sometimes that's the only system repair which seems to work. Swaddling was also a favorite, sort of an emulation of returning to an earlier system level.

They do eventually settle down.
