I read an interesting post on the AAPL discussions on the Google Finance page about AAPL. The commenter pointed out that the iPhone is going on sale in Korea very soon, which is nice news, but it overlooks something that is potentially even more important, which is that Korea uses CDMA phones. I don't know if that is true or not, but if it is, it may mean that a CDMA iPhone already exists and is about to hit the market. Could Verizon be far behind?

It'll be years before I'm willing to buy a phone for hundreds of $s and THEN pay $60/mo to use it. As much as I'd like to have one, I REFUSE to pay that kind of money for the pleasure.

Been hearing that the iPhone is stumbling badly in China.

I'm willing to bet that this phone does not use CDMA. I think Korean 3G is the same standard as AT&T. Any Korean forum posters willing to verify?

Keep dreaming that the iPhone is coming to Verizon in the near future. Apple is debuting several commercials today taking a shot at Verizon. They focus on the ability of GSM 3G to support voice and data simultaneously, something that can't be done with CDMA 3G.

Yeah, I posted the gist of what you are saying (although, that was prior to the Verizon is bad Apple commercials) in an earlier thread and people still insisted, "No, no, Verizon, is getting the iPhone."

Well, I guess we will just wait and see. I figure the best chance Verizon has of getting the iPhone is after the LTE transition. Otherwise, not so much.

Um, 3G is a CDMA technology, even for GSM phones. AT&T's 3G is really something like 3.5G, which is why it is faster than Verizon's offering (although, per the map for that, in fewer places).

Korea uses the same mobile systems as in Japan, which don't match anything elsewhere.

If iPhone is stumbling in China it's because they left out WiFi. Don't know why that's the case.

AT&T's 3G (WCDMA) is not the same as Verion's EVDO. I think that's what macphanatic is referring to.
