carpet question

We have a large carpet in our living room that covers hardwoods. We'd like to put something under it to make it a little more padded. I'm not sure what to use. They had some carpet padding (like the kind that goes under a carpet install) at the home center but the man told me not to use it over a hardwood floor. It was only for an actual carpet install where it would be over a cement slab or a subfloor. There are those carpet "pads" that keep your carpet from slipping but those are too thin. We're looking for something more substantial.

There’s a guy wearing overalls with no shirt.
Which I think we all know is the International uniform for the last guy you’ll ever see.

you could make a mat like that with what I vacuum up every week from our two cats. Should I start mailing you some?
