Hillary should be the VP

There, I said it~! She may be too old in four years, but it all makes good sense to me, since the Repubs will probably pick a woman or a man of Latino background to be VP and choosing Hillary would help energize a large base for the Dems that is not particularly energized right now, to say nothing of blowing the roof off the fundraising ceiling.

so. discuss.

I think they should swap Joe Biden with Hillary Clinton.

I seriously doubt she'd want to give up her important job as Secretary of State, where she thrives, and become VP which is a far less fulfilling job.

As the recent American Experience program showed, she really did intend to be co-president with Bill. Being Secretary of State is the next best thing.

She'd energize the Republican base, too.

I do think freshening up the ticket with someone new would be worth a look, with an eye to 2016. Biden was a safe choice to provide grounding for a young candidate like Obama, but now it's time to move on.

One downside is it might look like desperation. At least, I sure the other side would say so.

The big thing is, how do you tell Joe Biden?

From Hillary's point of view:

1. Would it look good on her resume or tombstone (if they won?)

2. Would it help or hurt if she wanted to run in 2016?

3. Is she tired of her current job, but like to stay in the game?

I don't think her age would be a huge factor next time if she keeps at her current pace.

Oh I agree... she's still the Bogeywoman for many Republicans who remember the 1990's. Bringing her back home would not be a good political move for the Obama candidacy. Better to keep her where she IS doing well... despite what BS talking points will have you believe, she's not out giving away the store, and she's being properly tough or conciliatory where necessary.

In the end I think Foreign Relations are her strongest skillset.

Heard on the radio (must have been NPR) that Romney won Michigan largely because of strong turnout by women.
I think that Rick Santorum is energizing the women vote (both republican and democratic) in a way that Hillary can't.
I also think she likes her current job....I doubt she is interested in the change.

She's not too old for a run for the presidency in 2016, but there may be other good reasons she may not be interested. (I think she'd be a really good president, though.) There would plusses and minuses to her being on the ticket as VP candidate this year, but on balance I'd say her being on the ticket wouldn't make enough difference for the pluses to outweigh the minuses. I hope she wants to still be Secretary of State because she's doing a really good job there - I think it's been one of those situations where you don't hear much about what she's doing because she so good at what she's doing.

I thought I read somewhere that she was wanting to leave her position after this term.

Is there anything at the UN that would keep her occupied and happy?

I doubt she'd go for the veep spot as it generally blows. I think she'd love to be Sec Gen of the UN and maybe go out doing some actual GOOD in the world. She'd go for that, maybe as a resume-builder/crowing and crowning achievement. That or King of France.

Wig, that is interesting on the AE show, I'll have to check that out, thanks for posting. I was hoping she would win the prez for a while there in hopes we'd also get Billy C back in the White House. That guy is entertaining as hell and smarter than most world leaders combined.

I think the UN job has some stipulations that would make it hard just to put her in there because she would be good. Don't they rotate by continents or something?

Sec. Clinton is not eligible to be Sec-Gen of the UN.
Citizens of the 5 permanent member nations are ineligible.

I've never been a fan of hillary, but she has been a superb sec state

Will she come back for the second term? Man, you'd think 4 years of that job would be enough. When was the last time someone did this for 8 years?

I don't think they were rumors, a direct answer to a question in an interview about a year ago.

Quote

Clinton, who did a series of interviews in Cairo, said "no" when asked if she would remain after the 2012 election. She also said she would not run for president again, seek the vice presidency or become secretary of defense.

And a more recent quote about a month ago.

Quote

"I have made it clear that I will certainly stay on until the president nominates someone and that transition can occur" if Obama wins re-election, she told a town hall meeting. "But I think after 20 years, and it will be 20 years, of being on the high wire of American politics and all of the challenges that come with that, it would be probably a good idea to just find out how tired I am."

Every one of those statements is eminently mutable, GGD - all it takes is the right motivation.

Sure, but the source of the statements are beyond what would be considered a rumor.

I think Joe Biden essentially proves how little VP matters. I agree with Wig that she'll continue doing something that does. kj.

The ONLY reason she would accept the VP slot would be a run for the real job in 2016.

I agree.

And as mentioned above, the SecState doesn't usually stay for the entire two-term presidency.

If Hillary ran for VP and lost, she would be in no good position for a run in 2016. If she retires from State, builds an organization, and a new Republican administration botches things up, she's in a pretty good position. If Obama wins again and has a decent 4 years, she's in a pretty good position. I think semi-retiring and getting tanned and rested is her best choice if she wants to run for president.

Yeah, but I really want Biden out now.

He's such a f-ing dick.

'Seems like all he ever does when he's not spouting nonsense is hold secret meetings with lobbyists to promote unconstitutional laws and evil treaties.
