They still have a factory in Maine and elsewhere. The one I know of is in the town where my ex lives. I used to go to the factory outlet store there regularly when visiting my sons, now that they are here in Mass. for school I miss that.

Many of those "Made in USA" labels barely quality (with operations in tiny little holdings that we picked up during the war against japan), but I did a little searching and it looks like they have 6 factories in the lower 48, so I guess it's a truly legit claim. Sorry to steer this thread off the tracks...

i'm sure it's intentionally vague. anyone know someone who works in one of the US factories? i'd love to see a documentary or expose on sneakers instead of iPads. i bet you more sneakers are sold per year than iPads... (barely)

Like I said, my ex lives in ine of the towns with a factory, and yes they do more than just put the laces in. My sons went to high school with kids whose parents worked in the factory, and some of those parents were involved with their scout troop. New Balance even offers tours. There is a short video on the website, [www.newbalance.com], shows construction of one of their styles.

Just went to a Sports Authority yesterday and spent over $100 for baseball cleats and underpant/slide protection/testicle proof stuff for the kid, one of his teammate's folks spent more than $600 for a bat. It's crazy beyond belief. What happens when you live with parents who deliver their kid to school in their Bentley.

The first pair of New Balance walking shoes I tried on and bought at a local retailer. For the last 4 years, I've bought the same model and size online and saved a lot of money.
