What I find interesting about many of these overt racists is that when you confront them about it they deny and they come up with lame irrational excuses like "the n word isn't necessarily about black people". either they are lying sobs or something in their brain short circuits and they go temporarily insane when confronted with their own racism.

Where I will agree that saying a word over and over will make it lose its power (eventually), it does not make it less offensive to many of us now. Whatever ethnicity you are, if the most offensive insult possible was thrown your way, would you feel that it was ok if done in a "creative" way? I doubt it.

There have been racist messages around for a long time and people who continue to show this crap do not need to be given a pass, because you think it is a "great score."

The people who contune this garbage are just low grade.

Deeply ingrained, institutional racism is alive and well in the US, and it doesn't just offend people, it kills them, and them it lets the killer off the hook, at least until other people complain. The bumper sticker is only a mild symptom of the ugliness that still possess us. I think it's good to complain about all the symptoms if you want to get at the illness.

I think Black brought up an interesting point. Do blatantly racist statements benefit or suffer from greater exposure? Racism is a chronic problem, it should be addressed as such. Emphasis on acute instances, may or may not help that chronic problem. In a perfect world, we could address the chronic problem without giving greater exposure to the acute instances. Of course, we are not in a perfect world and there will be exposure to these acts. But what should be our response?

The "re-nig" bumper sticker is not getting nearly the exposure that the Trayvon Martin killing is. Both deserve attention, obviously not in equal amounts.
I don't think there is any problem here with disproportionate exposure.

Another example, at the state leg level we have unfair and racist treatment of immigrants, especially those from Mexico and Central America. This deserves a lot of attention and heat and response from the federal gov't, which it is getting.
Then you have idiots like the Mississippi college students who chanted ugly remarks at the basketball player from Puerto Rico, during the NCAA tournament. That deserves attention and it got addressed. Doesn't rise to the level of the institutionalized racism at the state house, but is a symptom of the same disease. It all deserves to be noticed.
We can send a collective message that it's not acceptable, at any level.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but internet forum discussions have nowhere near the reach of television news. I contend that there are literally millions and millions of people who have no idea this bumper sticker exists and will continue to never know for the rest of their days, because they don't follow message boards.

I'm not entirely convinced by this statement. The usage of "forum discussions" qualifies the statement, but I think the reach of the internet is quite large.

and the internet also gives us stats on how frequently a topic is coming up. If you google "re-nig bumper sticker" you get 2.9 million hits. Not sure how long that topic has been around, but maybe since 2010.
If you google "Trayvon Martin" you get 293 million hits, and this just happened a few weeks ago.
