The most offensive thing (to me) that Santorum has said lately.

Only Catholics who take their faith seriously vote for him.

Oh I know, he regularly says offensive and idiotic statements. The utter arrogance of THIS statement (in addition to, you know, being factually incorrect) is just mind blowing. That the Fox twit so eagerly agrees with him is of course, not surprising.

And Rick? This guy introducing you? This is a LONG way from Catholic teaching about pretty near anything.

If people in his own party do not like him (Santorum), what makes you think that the other party would think any different? He has support ONLY within his party and even then it will not be enough. The sooner he goes away from being in the public forum, the better.

People like Dennis Terry are, at their core, not good people.

People who take their faith seriously don't go around talking about how serious others are or aren't about their faith.

I don't disagree necessarily, but I tend to think that's a comment made most often by people who don't take faith seriously.

I am happily in that camp, btw.

Tell that to the Moonies, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientologists and Jews for Jesus recruiters hanging out at the Metro.

Yes. It is basically saying, "Keep it to yourself."

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

There's the Pope, too, but that's line A on a different Metro.

My son had a Mormon Bible put in his hands yesterday walking home from school. Ah, first sign of spring.

The best thing about Rick Santorum and Catholics is that most Catholics are not voting for him.

I'm more curious about their sex habits. Or the habits their nuns wear. Or their habit of à la carte rule observance of their chosen dogma.

In Florida, for example, Santorum got 8% of the Catholic vote.

Exit polling suggests that he lost the Catholic vote to Mitt Romney, a Mormon, by 7 percentage points in Michigan and by 13 in Ohio. These weren't isolated cases. In primary after primary, more Catholics have gravitated to Mr. Romney than to Mr. Santorum (or, for that matter, to Newt Gingrich, a Catholic-come-lately who collaborated with his third wife to make a worshipful documentary about Pope John Paul II).

In fact, Catholics in the exit polls tend to look more like the typical Romney Republican. Catholics are less deeply conservative and less likely to back the Tea Party movement. They have more formal education than non-Catholics and higher incomes, with 74 percent reporting annual household incomes over $50,000, compared with 67 percent of non-Catholics.

Fro... Santorum has doing better with middle class and poor voters. Maybe all the Catholics that voted for Mittens were the massive turnout of the 1% that he seems to be generating. Entrance/Exit polling of people making over $100k in this cycles primaries is nearly double of previous primaries, and the large majority of them seem to be voting for Mittens.

evangelicals love Rick Santorum, his fellow Roman Catholics, not so much.
[articles.boston.com]

54% of Catholics voted for Obama in '08. The Catholics I know are mostly liberal Democrats. They are not a group that fits into political stereotypes, as much as Mr. Santorum would like them to.

Before my mother moved in with my brother, she lived in a seniors' apartment building. She told me a couple of times how the women in the building who were Catholic would mention that they resented having the "men of the cloth" stand in the pulpit and tell them what was right or wrong regarding reproduction rights. Some of them opposed abortion, and some even birth control, but they said they were sick of the men dictating this stuff. If this is how elderly women feel, I think it bodes ill for men who are seeking to get still-fertile women to vote for them while saying the same exact things.
