As Tampa gets ready to host the GOP National Convention they are creating "safe" zones for demostrations.

Nothing that could be construed as a weapon will be allowed in the safe zone EXCEPT handguns!

The state legislature, in its infinite wisdom passed a law that forbids local governments from passing any restrictions on gun owners. So if a person has a carry permit (easier to get than a drivers license), they may have their gun with them inside the safe zone.

Water pistols? - forbidden, Glocks? - sure, why not...

If that isn't enough - because emotions will be running high in the demonstration area, any shooting is almost guaranteed to fall under the states now infamous "Stand Your Ground" law and be considered a justified shooting.

The only way to get past this restriction is either the state legislature calling a special session to deal with it (at $1 million+ per day) or if the Secret Service takes over the entire five square miles (which they already said no too).

Should make for fun TV.

Dems might respond and draw attention by permitting spit tubes while banning slingshots. Nah they're way too weak-kneed to poke the bear* in the nose.

Most Gun Shows in Florida run concealed weapons classes. Two hours, $64.00 including fingerprints and notary plus the State fee of $117.00 and you're ready to Lock N' Load.

Now I come to think of it, I've never heard of anyone failing the class.

Social Seecurity Card (no copies)
2 proofs of residential address
Pass an eye exam
Pass a written test (that can be failed)
Pass a sign identication test (that can be failed)
Pass an onroad driving test (that can be failed)


Sounds like the drivers test is more of a headache to obtain to me...

The irony is that the Floridians are so worried about their Second Amendment rights that they don't even notice how their First Amendment rights are being trampled on. I would like to see a million people go to Tampa and totally overrun all the non-"Clean Zones".
