Obama lies again

Doesn't it bother the liberals here that Obama has injected himself into the Supreme Court's current decision on health care with his lies, half truths and scare tactics?

Obama is a graduate of Harvard Law School and majored in Constitutional law. He was a professor of Constitutional Law at Chicago University. HOW could he get this so wrong? He's trying to back peddle this, but anyone with any intelligence knows how wrong he is. Either he's just plain stupid or he thinks the public is stupid and will buy his "facts".

there fixed that for you...

There are plenty of lies to go around, why limit it to one individual?

Those comments did disturb me. He sounds as if he's decided to take a page from the right-wing playbook, but it was the wrong page as far as I am concerned.

Perhaps he needs to get some lessons from Rick "California universities don't even teach US history" Santorum and Mitt "I've never supported anything like Romneycare...err...ah...Obamacare in my life" Romney about how to keep his facts straight.)

Bingo. Don't descend to the GOP's level.

On the other hand, the Supremes have drastically overstepped their bounds. The debate last week sounded more like a Congressional debate than a reasoned legal discussion of a bill passed by representatives of the people and signed by the executive. The Supremes need to mind the system of checks and balances themselves. Any of them is welcome to run for Congress if he wants. Those who do not should stick to the knitting of jurisprudence.

It does not matter if the Supremes agree with the law. What matters is its constitutionality, and I think the Affordable Care Act is well within precedent.

Sounds more like just election year speak rather than 'lies' to me.

The term 'judicial activism' is hysterically amusing. Why is it that the side that lost the case always claims 'judicial activism' ? angry villagers smiley

Instead of admitting "Our lawyers screwed up." ? confused smiley

No, that doesn't bother me. It would bother me a great deal if he were to get re-elected though. I don't like him. I don't like the direction he is taking our country. I don't like his arrogance or constant need to pit factions of our country against each other. He seems to like picking fights and picking sides. He's supposed to be the leader of all the people not just those of the liberal faith. I'm tired of him blaming the other half of the nation for everything that goes wrong instead. of LEADING he is constantly pushing the rope.

For example, he gets petulant when things like the (read his Democratic) Senate rejects his budget proposal 97-0. How can he blame that on Republicans when no one in his own party could vote for it?

The Constitutions calls for the Congress to vote on a budget annually (it doesn't call for them to pass a budget, just bring it to a vote). That's LAW. Yet Harry Reid and the Dems won't even bring it to the floor for a vote. That's flaunting the law. Yet Obama continues to blame Republicans. The Republicans are not the ones holding up a budget vote. They passed a budget in the House. It's his own party that is literally breaking the law. You liberals here defend this blatant disregard of the LAW. I just don't understand how you justify this sort of thing in your own mind. What part of the LAW don't you understand?

Because, in your eyes, I am sure I am some sort of liberal, and due to that, I don't have my constitution handy (I probably mistook it for a simple piece of paper and threw it out), could you remind me which Article and Section requires the annual budget vote?

Swampy,
It would be easy to completely flip what you just said above and apply it to the Republicans. I see them being just as devisive, if not moreso.

That makes your statement the perfect example of how the art of compromise is gone and any agreement with the opposition is now seen as a defeat. Until both sides of the aisle get past such stupidity - we are going to continue a downward slide regardless of who is President.

The President was way off the mark on this one. Nonetheless, if the Affordable Care Act survives, it will be because the Congress is given broad latitude by the SCotUS to legislate without court interference. Even when the justices personally dislike the laws.

Surprisingly, the U.S. Constitution makes no provisions for a federal budget and, in fact, the federal government operated without a comprehensive budget process until 1921. The Budget and Accounting Act of 1921, which has been amended many times, provides for a federal budget system and requires the President to prepare and submit an annual budget to Congress each year. The Act established the Bureau of the Budget—now the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)—to help the President prepare and implement the federal budget, and defines the role of the President and federal agencies in the process.

The Constitution grants the "power of the purse" to Congress, but does not establish any specific procedure for the consideration of budgetary legislation. Instead, a number of laws and congressional rules contribute to the federal budget process, with two statutes in particular forming the basic framework.
...
The President is required to submit to Congress a proposed budget by the first Monday in February. Although this budget does not have the force of law, it is a comprehensive examination of federal revenues and spending, including any initiatives recommended by the President, and is the start of extensive interaction with Congress.

This time, Swampy is absolutely correct. The article that she cited claims that Obama's claim is wrong and it is.

If the Supreme Court throws out the federal health care law, it "would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress."

AND he's certainly smarted enough and educated enough to know the truth. ALL TRUE...

But why she considers this a serious crime is beyond me... this is common election year BS.

But it bothers me that Obama is somehow claiming that a law passed by a majority in congress means that it can't be unconstitutional - that such laws have never been overturned by the court. Bald faced lie...

It was a stupid thing for Obama to say, and very noticeable because he doesn't often say such stupid things.

The problem I have with this thread, as usual, is Swampy herself: she's so blindly partisan that it only bothers her when a Liberal and/or a Democrat does something questionable. But the same behavior from "her side" gets a pass. E.g, Santorum claiming that California universities do not teach history. Or, ...one could go on and on and on.

And, as usual, when her often incorrect "facts" are refuted, she's got nothing else to say.

I think it's soundbite punditry to denounce Obama for this.

How about we consider the "clarified" view that uses administration comments after the juicy soundbite in the OP's link: that the health care law is as socially significant as Social Security and Medicare, so you have a basis for the argument that striking down sweeping social-welfare legislation is unprecedented in the modern, post-1929 era, at least.

I don't deny it sounds ad hoc like Obama digging himself (with help) out of a rhetorical hole, but this is big stuff. I don't see why Obama can't be allowed a few tries to refine his case.

To travel down the slippery slope, if ACA is struck down, what constitutional authority is behind Medicare and Social Security to protect them from a similar challenge? Or Welfare? Or Unemployment?
