His daughter Bella, who suffers a terminal illness, was hospitalized over the weekend, and although she was sent home I fear this indicates that she may be coming to the end of her life. I can't be gleeful, sorry.

Ditto. Sorry to hear about his daughter but that does not excuse his being a world class a**hole and bigot.

I hope a deal was cut to make him the VP candidate - that would be a real death blow to the ticket. He is nuttier than Palin.

Newt admitted this morning that Romney's the likely nominee, which I think might be Newt's way of backing out, er, gracefully.

This appears to be very good news for California liberals - thanks Ricky!

Santorum's supporters are understandably sad, but other Republicans may suffer too as California's role in the GOP presidential primary becomes moot, after months of growing enthusiasm that Santorum's early surge could turn the Golden State's June primary into an unlikely decisive battle. Now, voter turnout almost certainly will drop, possibly spelling trouble for Republicans in down-ticket races subject to the new voting system in which candidates of all parties face off directly and the top two vote-getters -- regardless of party -- advance to November's general election.

<snip>

Bridget Melson, a Tea Party activist who co-hosted a March 29 fundraiser for Santorum in Alamo, said Tuesday she's "bummed" but will soldier on.

"I just got off the phone with the senator, and he's got such a great attitude. To me, it makes my heart sad because I felt that for the first time in a long time, here's a presidential candidate the conservatives can get behind who loves God first, country second," she said. "He just said he wants to be involved still in politics and hopefully in the future possibly running again in 2016, but right now this is the best decision for him and his family."

Now that Romney's nomination appears to be a fait accompli, "I will get behind him for sure, anything to defeat Barack Obama," she said, acknowledging it could be a struggle to convince other conservatives will do likewise.

"There's some fire in the belly... but even on Facebook I can tell some people are not enthused about having to get behind Mitt," Melson said. "Some Tea Party people and some of my relatives are saying they just won't vote at all, and I tell them, 'you can't do that.'"

Sure ya can! Follow your heart!!

I feel very sorry for his daughter and his wife. I have no sympathy for him. He could have dropped out a long time , when it was obvious he could not win, and spent the time with his daughter. Hell, he could have forgone the run all together to spend this last year with his daughter, instead of spewing his hateful bigotry and trying to tell the rest of the world how to live.

I am not gleeful. I am only relieved that he is, for now and hopefully forever, out of politics.

You've raised a very good point. I guess I am just reacting to the photos I was looking at of the little girl. l can't stand the man, don't get me wrong.

agree smiley

i doubt a weasel like Rick will stay out of politics - it's how he defines himself. maybe he'll parlay it into a lucrative speaking career with lucrative book deals to complement it.

I also doubt he'd have suspended his campaign or even taken a week off if he'd had any chance of overtaking Mitt.

He knew it was over and he didn't want to lose Penn. The more money they spent beating one another up the less there is for beating up on Obama. In Theory.

I try to find some good whenever I can, but, sadly, I think you're dead on with this assessment.
