The House just passed the dishonestly named "Small Business Tax Cut" bill, HR9, which is essentially a give-away to the wealthiest business owners and does nothing to help the majority of small business owners who are not wealthy, and it does nothing to stimulate job growth or new investment, it also is not paid for with cuts, something Repubs have been demanding of Dems.

So, probably DOA in the Senate, or the President will veto it.

Just for starters, here is the first volley:

"We also know that over 45% of people in this country don't pay income taxes at all, and we have to question whether that's fair."

When asked if we need to have a tax increase (on the bottom 45%), he ducked the question and segued into a GOP talking point. He seems to think that taxing the poorest Americans will somehow create the funds that this country needs, at the same time, he is working as hard as possible to give the richest amongs us more and more breaks.

Every day these clowns come out with another reason to despise them.

We should cut the tax breaks for soldiers in war zones too. Why should these slackers get a pass on taxes?

My brother fell for that line a while back. When I reminded him about people below the poverty level, and people collecting the Earned Income Credit, and reminded him that these people pay state, local, property, sales and sometimes personal property taxes, he said, ohhhh, yeahhhh. We tend to forget that there are people with very different lives than our own, and our family's and friends'.

Eric Cantor is the kind of guy that even I, as a pacifist would have punched out in high school.

What a @#$%&...but that makes other @#$%& look bad...asshat, that's it, he's an asshat.

This "over 45% of people in this country don't pay income taxes at all" meme is getting very popular, and as Gutenberg points out it is essentially a big crock. It's just another effort to convince Regular Joe that it's the poor people who have messed his life up, and not banks and corporations.

There are (of all things) reasonable republicans and a few democrats in name only. Most resonable people do not think this is a good idea.

The real question, bill, is do you support taxing the poorest Americans and giving those who could most afford an increase a pass? The majority of Americans do not agree that this is the right way to go about things.

Cantor is making a good case to why people get so angry at politicians and why some even get threats.
