Why have Republicans declared a war on Catholic teaching?

We heard lots of outrage from our friends in the GOP when the Obama administration had HHS policies about funding contraception that were perceived to run contrary to church teaching. Why Obama was declaring a war on religion!

Why do those folks have apparently no problem with their own policies that are directly in opposition to Catholic social justice teaching?

Whether it's Paul Ryan or John Boehner (both Catholic politicians)..the message seems to be that it's ok for THEM to ignore Catholic social teaching for policies that fit their agenda?

Yes we are. And explaining to other clueless self-styled "Catholics" how their proclamations of 'Catholic ideas' are against the teachings of Christ and the Church.

Yes, I'm talking about you, Rickie S.

(And my brother in law, whose association with Regnum Christii / Legionnaires of Christ has caused no end of sorrow in my family .)

Some are...some don't apparently care, they are too busy comparing Obama to Hitler.

I eagerly await Bishop Jenky's outrage from the pulpit about the GOP budget plan, that apparently he and his fellow bishops have a big problem with.

The pope opposed the war in Iraq, as well. There's definitely a lot of cherry-picking by the GOP when it comes to Catholicism.

we need more progressive Catholics (yeah, I know) with love in their hearts.

in fact, haters in any religion need to get out. i was taught GOD IS LOVE as a child.

in this world, i don't see that nearly enough.

yeah, the irony in all of this is that it's conservative Catholics who generally use the term "cafeteria Catholics" to describe Catholics who, for example, disagree on Church practice regarding on male celibate priests.

The message here is liberal dissent = OMG heresy!!!
conservative dissent = okey dokey

After the priests in my Parish read some letter during Mass from my Archbishop crying "religious persecution" as a result of the HHS contraception mandate, I have been waiting for the good Fathers to read a similar letter about the GOP's budget and how it contradicts Catholic social teacher.

I'm still waiting for the letter opposing the 2003 invasion of Iraq...

It's also funny how the Church freely accepts funds from Big GovernmentTM to run its social service programs without complaint or hyperbole.

Last mass I wwas at , the archbishop preside over. He read his own letter decrying gay marriage and the death penalty, easy divorce and obscene health care costs while a needless war is going on!
