Law Against a Meme ? Facebook Snooping Law in Congress

I find TWO levels of entertainment here.

Level 1- I don't believe ANYONE was actually asked for their Facebook password in the course of a job interview. This is not a 'trend', any more than trading Tide for drugs in a trend.

Level 2- This is the SAME Congress that just passed CISPA, which allows and encourages private companies to collect and trade personal data on ALL people and companies, REGARDLESS OF ANY OTHER LAW, under the name of 'cybersecurity'.

So the takeaway is that Congress will 'protect our privacy' after happily giving it completely away. Nice move, Congress.

Idiots.

Asking for facebook user ID and pw has been very common among employers, especially government agencies.
One example of many:

A little research with "the google" would seem to prove otherwise.

If I had worries about a job interview, I'd probably disable my account before the interview in case they asked.

Not that I have anything horrible on mine... but just out of principle.

I do not have a FB account but if I did and was asked for such personal info in a job interview, I would respond by offering an instant and unsolicited urine sample into whatever cup happened to be sitting on their desk.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011: Maryland's Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services has suspended a roughly year-old practice of asking prospective employees to voluntarily divulge their user names and passwords to social media Web sites such as Facebook to check for gang affiliations, the department said Tuesday.

The little-known practice gained notoriety on Feb. 14, when the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland issued a press release and subsequent YouTube video detailing the story of a corrections officer who said he perceived that he had no choice but to turn over his passwords or risk failing recertification to work in the state's prison system.

You shouldn't have posted item one, because it ruined any consideration of item two, which is a good one.

Level 2 is valid because there are 2 different special interest groups paying off congress (or one is not paying off congress.)
