There is an antiscientific streak that runs through part of European politics, from the movement to ban genetically modified crops to the antinuclear power groups. The 22 Gw of power put out by solar installations in the noonday sun probably correspond to a 24 hour average of maybe 4 or 6 Gw, and it doesn't contribute to baseline requirements at night, nor does it contribute nearly as much in the winter.

I think that creating this level of solar capacity is admirable, as every bit helps, but closing uraniaum plants and replacing the power with fossil fuel plants adds to the carbon dioxide load on the earth's atmosphere, something devoutly to be avoided.

Is that true? I've never heard the were Soviet stooges. By Soviet, I think you mean Russian?

Either way, it's embarrassing that Germany, a country not much bigger than New Mexico, generates more solar electricity than the entire united United States.

Sorry.. no citation, an aside comment to me from a retired Lt. Col back in the cold war days of the early 1980's who then said "Uh.. you didn't hear that". And I meant the Soviets.. not the Russians. The USSR GRU and KGB were masters at agit-prop and supporting groups designed to destabilize their enemies. The US tried, but we were not as good at it, and our operations kept getting 'outed' by our own press.

The Russians, of course, still have the files and are quite capable of blackmailing people into doing what they want. Which is buy their natural gas, etc...

Lux.. no... he was probably the best boss I've ever had in my life. Did three tours in Vietnam starting as an LT and ending as a Capt. Did a couple of Pentagon tours where he worked with all the spooky plans and methods. A very rational and intelligent person... had an MS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA.

A reliable source on international affairs? Maybe not so much. Never trust what a spook says right before he says 'you didn't hear that.' Either he's a good spook and he's propagandizing you, or he's a crappy spook and has just undermined himself by slipping up.

I wouldn't be so sure. We all know that no educated, thoughtful individual would willingly support Green Party ideals of their own free will, so it makes sense that there's some evil puppetmaster behind the scenes pulling the strings.
