Democrats: Here's our proposed legislation....

Republicans: That legislation is unconstitutional and will destroy America! Instead, we propose this idea that the founding fathers and God would approve of. It is the only alternative. It will solve all of our problems and we believe in it 100%!

Democrats: Well, okay. We will support your plan.

Republicans: No way! That legislation is unconstitutional and will destroy America!

Rinse, lather (i.e. foam at the mouth), repeat...

There comes a point when the cry to "Get along" really translates to 'Do it my way'. Political parties specialize in this particular Big Lie. "Compromise" to most policial animals means "Victory", not what it really should be.

The Republican Party of 2012 is much further to the right on the political spectrum than the Republican Party of 1994.

Heck, the republican party of 1994 was somewhat to the left of the democratic party of 2012.

What shocks me about this whole mess is that the populace seems to have no memory or is unable to pay attention when given real information about how the party lines have changed. It is completely ironic that the republicans are fighting the individual mandate tooth and nail when in fact it was a republican idea that the democrats agreed to in order to placate the opposition. Absurdity reigns.

What good is a mandate when Obama has already given exemptions to states, unions and other groups? I thought the idea of the mandate was to expand the payer base in order to spread the costs.

You're confusing mandates and coverage waivers. Two different things.

Right. Mandate means when you stick it to your enemies. Waiver is when you exempt your friends.
