Is your employer holding off on hiring due to uncertainty over the Affordable Care Act?

No. There is uncertainty about how we will approach medical insurance.

"U.S. corporations are sitting on more than $1.2 trillion in cash - $3.5 trillion counting the financial sector - that has not been deployed, in large part due to anxiety over health care, the looming fiscal cliff in Washington, and the European debt crisis."

Gee, for years it's been because the tanked economy / recession caused them to approach growth and investment more conservatively and cautiously .
Obama's only been imploring companies to let the purse strings flow since 2009.
Maybe Mr. Cox could go get a transcript of a speech or two. You don't need more than one or two.

Next week it'll be because the moon's made of the wrong kind of cheese ?

Billb- you nailed it. The reporter probably happily reuses that sentence and just replaces item #1 with the political football of the day.

I wonder if there's an article claiming that @#$%& were to blame from a couple of weeks ago. confused smiley

Yesterday did not resolve anything. Now we have to wait to see what happens in November. Business obligations are less clear than ever before.

Avenger-

I don't see how November will be relevant to Healthcare. Proclamations by Ex-Governor Romney that he is going to 'abolish Obamacare' indicate that he's another one of these morons who thinks the President is a King.

The only way the Congress will make any changes to the law is if there is an enormously overhwelming advantage by one party or another in the House and the Senate, AND they have the ability to override a veto by the President (or he's the same party and agrees wtih them).

An intelligent Congress won't do anything about it, and wait for the whining to commence. That will set the tone for the 2016 national elections.

A typical Congress will try to do something about it, fail miserably, an that will also set the tone for the 2014 and 2016 national elections. If we're lucky they will spend all their time on that, and have no chance to screw us up any other way.

Now that individual mandate has been established as a tax, Congress can do anything it wants with it, and it takes a simple majority. Why do you think Dems, including Obama, did their darnest to deny it is a tax? As I see it IRS needs a new line item on Form-1040 and the only way they can put it there is by an act of Congress.

Funny how the biggest collapse of the economy since 1929 is always forgotten when any other plausible target for finger-pointing comes into view.

I have no idea until what.
That is the problem, I have no idea where my costs of labor are going to be.
In the last 2 years I have hired six people. For a company of our size that is a lot.
I need to invest six months of training into every new hire before they can contribute to our production.
There is no way am I going to invest that kind of money if I have to lay them off because I cannot afford them...

The 2007–2012 global financial crisis, also known as the Global Financial Crisis and 2008 financial crisis, is considered by many economists to be the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s.[1] It resulted in the collapse of large financial institutions, the bailout of banks by national governments, and downturns in stock markets around the world. In many areas, the housing market also suffered, resulting in evictions, foreclosures and prolonged unemployment. The crisis played a significant role in the failure of key businesses, declines in consumer wealth estimated in trillions of US dollars, and a downturn in economic activity leading to the 2008–2012 global recession and contributing to the European sovereign-debt crisis.[2][3]

Every recession you will find some bozo economist that "considers" it the worst since 1929.
That is not what wikipedia's own numbers say.
Dont take my word for it, and it is not a consideration, those are official statistics:

OTOH
I have gone through several, it is quite relative, the one we had here, in Southwest, in 1985 was the worse one of them all, but it was very regional, the rest of the country did fine.
Here in Houston we lost about 40% of our jobs....

It won't have to be overwhelming if the Republicans get all three branches - even if by one vote in the House and a tie in the Senate. They will vote lock-step in the House and use every means to cram through things in the Senate, regardless of rules, customs, decorum, fairness, etc. It will be scorched-earth; like nothing we have ever seen in American politics.

everyone seems to be forgetting that it takes 2/3 to to bring a bill to a vote. in effect, in the past few years its taken a 2/3 vote to do anything.

Wait, I have hired two people, but one was Canadian.

Is health care the only cost you cannot quantify?
I am also facing increased regulatory compliance cost, all paperwork, we comply otherwise.
Between the two I would have to waste money on a nonproductive position just to deal with this crap.

With manufacturing margins as thin as they are the question becomes, is it worth it?
Just shut it down, redefine your marketing, buy everything offshore...

Then there is the insurance, product liability. If I totally offshore my supply, my product liability decreases by 90%....
