A family of 6 (husband and wife, 2 sons and their wives) will now go on the unemployment roles. GET GOVERNMENT OUT OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR!!! BS is killing jobs and businesses!

Swampy, this tax thing works on both sides of the aisle. Republicans have their tricks and terminology for disguising what's really a tax. Oh, and guess why there were no rolling machine rentals. Bigger companies didn't want your friend's competition. Money talks as usual. Again, something that happens on both sides of the aisle.

What is a rolling machine rental? I am unfamiliar with this kind of a business -- unless "roll your own" means what it did when I was in college.

I think you mean going up to over 10% of AGI versus the current over 7.5% of AGI.

About your comment on fees. Usually only people who use the product or service pay the fee. For example, I don't have a dog so I don't have to pay the dog park fee. There is no city water service provided in my neighborhood so I don't have to pay a hook up fee. I don't drive on the FL turnpike so I don't pay the toll. I have no objection to fees.

Looks like big tobacco has been lobbying congress (spreading around the cash) for several years to close a loophole that allowed the rent a rollers to avoid some federal taxes paid by manufactures.

You do pay the toll fee. Every commercial vehicle that uses it passes the cost to it's customers. One of the problems with limiting yourself to only what you use is that everything is so intertwined. Only select, specialized services can be separated out. Even your medical treatment was paid for by others.

Seems in Massachusetts less than 1% of the population (about the same number who now go to fight our wars) was subject to this oh so onerous tax.

As to regulations designed to protect people from unnecessary injury (in this case that might be death from cancer), maybe your friends could morph into a safer way to make a buck and stop providing a way to evade state and federal taxes.

We've gone from 6% to 2% not covered by ins. ( not counting undocumenteds )
How many of that 2% actually pay taxes and pay the "tax" might be 1%.
Other states with a higher percentage may have a harder time making things work.
