I am glad that the coal-burning Dominion power have all of a sudden found favor with you. Ironic since Obama is running around boasting that he will run them into bankruptcy. You condemned his remarks at the time, didn't you?

Don't know where you have been for the past 10 years, but more and more traditional CCs are now offering 4 year degrees. Just last week our local CC changed its name from Community College to State College. It is offering 4 year degrees in Education, Nursing, and Business and Applied Science It still fulfills the role of a CC with all the economic advantages. All 28 CCs in Florida offer at least one 4 year degree.

My complaint about the Washington bean counters is that they don't seem to have clue what transitions are taking place in local CC and their lack of knowledge penalized the vets seeking job retraining.

A problem has arisen for a veterans’ training program expected to launch July 1: Classes at community colleges in 18 states and territories will not be covered because those schools also provide bachelors’ degrees

Swampy, once they go 4 year they are a State school and no longer a CC. The line was blurred. All that's missing is dorms. Many 4 year institutions offer 2 year programs in addition to 4 year degrees. It's the same edu creep that happened decades ago when state teacher's schools morphed into colleges then universities. But, this will morph again. CC's that move to state with either revert or new CC's will open. Plus more and more edu can be done on line without a physical campus. A 4 cylinder will help keep your AC blowing ice cold when there is a heat wave. Automotive AC systems use a small fraction of available engine power. Of course, I shouldn't expect a 'genius' like you, who started a thread trying to relate the presence of green energy sources to the lack of power resulting from storm damage, to grasp such 'fine' technical details.

I've damn near perfected it thanks to advice received here.

Squeeze:
1 juice orange
3 mexican limes
(optional) one medium-small lemon)
This will yield about 3.5 oz of juice.
Add 2 to 3 oz tequilla depending on your alcohol needs
1 oz frozen Limoncello
1/2 to 1 oz orange liguour e.g. Patron Citronage
Optional: 1/2 to 1 oz brandy/cognac
1 tbsp agave syrup per lemon used, if any
Stir or shake
Pour over ice.
Splash in a bit of Damiana Liquour.
Enjoy.
(should be enough for two tall ice-filled glasses)

What you guys need to do is try a mixed drink that's a blend of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka and Turkey Hill Lemonade (the brands used are critical). I just can't remember the proportions though. But if done right, you can't taste any of the alcohol. (^_^)

You need one of these posts every so often to remain in good standing with the ruling class here. I understand. In the mean time I am waiting for the news piece showcasing a house with solar roof that showed the way to the rest of the country and how they didn't miss a beat when coal-fired power went out. AC kept humming, fridge and freezers kept working, and they were able to keep their 4th of July party.

With 2 oz of Tequilla and no brandy, it's actually pretty mild; add the brandy and a third oz of Tequilla and it starts to become a pretty stiff drink.

Oh, I just cannot drink tequila. I don't like the way it tastes and I didn't like the way it felt the one time I was drinking it. I'm more of a beer/wine drinker -- or a "shot of Irish Whiskey" kind of drinker when it comes to "real" alcohol. Those mixed drinks can sneak up on a person!

I came to the realization not too long ago that Tequilla agrees with me much better than most other intoxicants. I don't dislike =good= beer but I don't really understand how anyone can drink more than about 2 before feeling too full for any more.

The part that I don't think you get Avenger, is that in infancy every technology is questioned.
In 15 years (if you are still alive) will you shun power that comes from waves or wind or solar?

I was looking at a website of photos of Europe before the World Wars. One of the things that struck me was how dirty and grimy everything was, from the soot of thousands of coal fires.

Even if you don't believe in man-made global warming, it's hard to deny that cleaner forms of energy are a good thing.

The technologies will improve, as they have always done, unless the powers that be actively prevent funding and quash interest. It seems you would approve of the powers doing this.

I cannot think of one good reason why, unless it is because your retirement is bound to the rise and fall of stocks in the existing oil companies and the governments in thrall to them.

You really do have limited vision.
Right off the top of my head- imagine roof shingles that have extremely efficient solar cells built into their structure, as par for the course. Every house in America could be producing electricity. No good reason why not, except for the existing Big Boys who want everything for themselves now and @#$%& the future.
So many possibilities and you share in none of them.

So what is the issue? Having power at all, or having only the sorts of power that are generated by specific industries?
Where the power comes from is entirely irrelevant. At the moment these people have none from any source.
Why do you think they would be opposed to for example wind-power, if it were available?

Imagine the convo..."Yea hi, I need some power back on, my food is rotting in the freezer and I'm sweating so much I'm in danger of losing weight. What, you only have green-generated power supplies? No sorry, I don't want any of that filth in my electricity lines!"

Seriously.
