Obama has shaped the argument lately because he's got better political instincts and a better campaign staff than Mitt Romney.
Romney's whining and defensive cry-baby reaction to questions about his tax returns exemplifies what people in his own party don't like about him. (Who are his friends in the GOP? Sununu?)
If Romney wants Bain to be his calling card and primary reason to vote for him, then he'd better be ready to explain what happened there.

The fun part about watching Romney gyrate is that he is trying to do what the last generation of Republicans did, and he can't quite get the hang of it. Karl Rove is manipulative and evil, but he knew enough to avoid being caught in obvious lies again and again. Romney is entangled in a bunch of excuses and half-truths that he has been using in the hope that a major scandal will go away, much as Richard Nixon tried (and often succeeded in) back before there was an internet and a 24 hour news cycle. Romney is stuck with his record at Bain and he is stuck with contradictory statements he made about his participation in Bain between 1999 and 2002. In the meanwhile, people are starting to ask about his tax returns, in the sense of "What is he hiding?" The longer he hides, the longer this is going to be front page stuff.

What's interesting about this from the standpoint of media criticism and history is that the major press organizations are not leading this inquiry, although the Boston Globe has a reporter who has done some good work on it.

Tax returns and Bain have flamed out, Better watch your back.

Love how the left condems Romney and Bain for ending jobs and outsourcing businesses and give Omama a pass on Jeff Immelt and GE. GE outsourced 130,000 jobs over 40 some odd countries. Oh, yes, Jeff Immelt, Omama's grand phooba on the "Jobs Council".
