"Mitt Romney wrapped up a bumpy three-country overseas tour on a high note Tuesday, meeting with Poland’s leaders, being warmly received by large crowds as he visited sacred sites and delivering a lofty speech about the persevering values that unite the nation and the United States."

Sorry, but Obama is not popular in Poland, therefore Poland is unimportant.

"In July 2008 Obama traveled to Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, the West Bank, Israel, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. During the course of this trip he met with assorted international leaders, including President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki of Iraq, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Olmert, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, and Prime Minister Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom, as well as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Conservative opposition leader David Cameron.

On July 24, 2008 he gave a speech at the Victory Column in Berlin before a crowd of estimated 200,000 to 240,000 people."

In July 2012 Mitt Romney traveled to the United Kingdom where he insulted his hosts and disclosed a meeting with the head of MI6. He then traveled to Israel where he was accused of racial insults, and collected large checks from wealthy donors. After that he traveled to Poland to pose for photos with a former union organizer and leader of illegal strikes. If he had been in the US, Romney and his ilk would have villainized the same activities. During the trip Romney made no speeches and still managed to damage his credibility on the world stage.

It's almost exactly the same thing.

Look like Romney was understaffed for the trip, but then again this was suppose to be easy with no heavy lifting.

“When Barack Obama traveled overseas as a candidate in 2008, it was an all-hands-on-deck event...By contrast, Romney’s top political advisers stayed home,” Rucker reported. Just how lopsided were the staffs? We dug around for the rosters.

For his trip, Obama got assists from at least 14 top staffers and advisors, many of whom were heavy hitters with serious foreign policy and economic credentials. They included former National Security Advisor Tony Lake; former Deputy National Security Advisor James Steinberg; former White House and State Department official Greg Craig; former assistant Secretary of State Susan Rice; former National Security Council staffer Ivo Daalder; longtime diplomat and State Department official Dennis Ross; former Navy Secretary Richard Danzig; former Under Secretary of Commerce Robert Shapiro; retired Air Force Major General Scott Gration; senior foreign policy advisor Denis McDonough; foreign policy speechwriter Ben Rhodes; chief strategist David Axelrod; communications director Robert Gibbs; and spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

Romney, on the other hand, has only three senior staffers with him for the entire trip: policy director Lanhee Chen; foreign policy aide Alex Wong; and press secretary Andrea Saul."

He also picked up a few stragglers hear and there along the way - more info at link [www.washingtonpost.com]

I continues to look as though he's trying to run his campaign on the cheap. Kind of ironic coming from the richest candidate in history.
He doesn't seem to get the difference between being a leading world public figure and a CEO. The complexity and the importance of message seems lost on Romney.

OK - a correction. It does appear that Romney gave a speech in Poland and praised the Solidarity Movement for their struggles against Communism. Also pointed out how the US should be more like Poland etc...

What could possibly go wrong ? (no - not the cursing aids thing)

Polish Solidarity Distances Itself From Romney Visit

(Reuters) - "Solidarity, the trade union movement which led the Polish struggle against communist rule, distanced itself on Monday from a visit to Poland by U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney, saying he supported attacks on unions in his own country."

You're almost paraphrasing a (very enjoyable) piece I say on BBC news last night. I particularly liked their wording of "rock star reception" regarding the way candidate Obama was greeted in Europe.

Exact same thing...

Well he did win the support of @#$%& Walesa, the guy who once led their union movement and was Prime Minister. Seems his old union, Solidarity, as well as Poland itself has little respect or use left for @#$%&.

While it's true that Poland is one of Europe's fastest-growing economies and boasts dynamic entrepreneurs, Romney's depiction of Poland as a place of small government is debatable. Even 23 years after throwing off a communist command economy, the Polish government continues to have a strong presence in people's lives: it gives women $300 for each baby they have, doubling that sum for poor families; it fully funds state university educations; and it guarantees health care to all its 38 million citizens.

If you're going to Europe looking for examples of American-style free-market/capitalist/boot-strappist/minimalist government, you are doing it wrong.
