Romney doubles down on culture bigotry, Jared Diamond weighs in

This is what I mean by Romney's continued muddled messaging. What the heck is he trying to say, that's not awful?

(Romney's op ed piece defending what he said about "culture" in Israel. Yes, it's the NRO. But Romney limits himself almost exclusively to conservative media outlets, so if you want to know what he thinks you have to go there.)

Romney sure can write a wonderful 8th-grade essay.

Someone should tell Mitt East Germany hasn't existed for over 20 years.

Jared Diamond
Mitt Romney may become our next president. Will he continue to espouse one-factor explanations for multicausal problems, and fail to understand history and the modern world?

Shout out to all the folks who disdain the Liberal Arts and critical thinking. Gov. Romney can count beans, but what else?

Romney has, like many politicians, talked condescendingly to the masses. But he does have a truly special gift regarding condescension. At times, he had flashes of the Executive In Charge while governor and while I may have disagreed with him, at least he was making a cogent and intellectual argument. Most times, he just speaks the way that essay is written. Again, most politicians are told to become someone else when running for office, but Mitt has taken this to a level not seen since, oh... John Edwards.

...But what exactly accounts for prosperity if not culture?

Natural resources, trade routes and strength of arms.

I first read Jared Diamond almost 20 years ago,
I highly recommend him!

Jared Diamond pretty much kicks ass. I wish he'd run for president.

He could run on the Green/Liberty/OneWorld or I'm an American ticket whenever he'd like.
