But don’t go calling Guinness just yet: Eagle Stadium is only the third-largest high school arena in the state, though it is the largest one used exclusively by a single team. The Allen Eagles consistently rank among Texas’ top 10 football teams, having clinched the state championship in 2008 and notching up a cumulative record of 88-15 over the past eight seasons, according to MaxPreps.

Here in NE Ohio we're lucky to have school buildings that aren't leaking or have been painted since the Reagan administration.

I wonder how the Texas schools work academically ?

Anyone who’s seen Friday Night Lights knows high school football in Texas is no joke. It’s particularly not a laughing matter in the Dallas suburb of Allen, which just spent $60 million on a lavish new stadium for its high school football team.

i'm on season 5 of Friday Night Lights and as much as it's a guilty pleasure I keep thinking surely high school football is not THAT important anywhere. guess i'm wrong. FNL must be a reality show.

Allen, Texas is a very wealthy suburb of Dallas, right?

They seem to have plenty of cash to lavish on their school, good for them. Academically that's a good high school. (huge too, 5K kids)

The rest of Texas? your mileage may vary.

My first time cross country, I stopped in a small Texas town on a Friday night for gas and supplies. Streets were rolled up and, I swear, the entire population for miles, a couple thousand people, filled rickety old bleachers around a football field. Band was blaring, cheerleaders were tumbling, and PA rattled on. It was like the French Plantation in Apocalypse Now. I've never forgotten the single minded concentration of all those people in the middle of nowhere on a dark, starry night.

I don't see my school getting anything like it; we don't draw that well.

Maybe because our best season since opening in 1984 is 6-6 (and that was one time only).

Riots on or near Cape Cod are usually fueled by underage consumption of alcohol, hard to make anything political with those busloads of detainees.
