Has a good bumper sticker ring to it.

Is there a Republican named Hood somewhere lurking? The GOP has proven that they're not too picky about the Veep spot, and Romney-Hood has a nice ring to it, as Obama demonstrated on Saturday.

Sure there's Ray LaHood but I somehow doubt he's interested.

Ryan could, of course, be the VP pick but I doubt it. I'm beginning to lean toward Rob Portman as being the likely pick.

After the Palin debacle, it'll be a ticket of Bland and Blander.

Portman has been the favorite all along - it's such a boring prospect that even though I won't be voting that ticket I'm pulling for Ryan. Would just make the season more interesting.

Romney can't pick a VP who will out shine him. IMO that leaves out Ryan, Rubio, and Christie. He needs to pick someone less dynamic than he is. So it will be Bland and Blander.

John Ashcroft will be surprised to learn of this.

Since then, sources say, Ryan has slowly floated to the top of Romney’s vice-presidential shortlist.

I'm getting some imagery there which I believe was not intended by the author...

Damn. I was hoping for Jheri Ryan instead. And that form fitting Star Trek uniform as obligatory VP attire.

I think it looks a little more likely that Romney might go with a more unconventional pick. Kelly Ayotte, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio.

None of his current attacks on the president are moving the needle in his direction. Obama has moved a couple more points ahead in the past month. Romney needs to go bold and shake things up.

He's going to need an electoral bang-for-buck. Ohio has them, Florida has them. If they do some diligent polling and find that Portman delivers the state, then he should be the guy. The same goes for Rubio.

Wisconsin isn't a big enough reward, and frankly people here don't like Ryan enough to shift their votes.

that's conventional wisdom but Nate Silver did some research on VP picks and they don't move the needle in their home states all that much. That's a consideration but not a top one when choosing the VP pick - it's more about their potential national effect.
