fock 'em

Sounds like they are terribly, terribly sorry that all of that nastiness caused them to lose revenue...

But I didn't hear any 'change of course' rhetoric - anything that indicates WHY these changes were made...

In its announcement Wednesday, the national Komen organization said Brinker would move into a new management role focusing on revenue creation, strategy and global growth, chairing the Komen board executive committee after a new senior executive is selected.

meet the new boss...

Not good enough. They take the woman with the bias against Planned Parenthood and put her in charge of strategic planning. It doesn't sound like they intend to behave like a charity, rather than a right-wing political org, anytime soon.

You guys are happily throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

So the foundating got crapped in by a politically active director. Who has now resigned, and the organization is moving back to their primary purpose.

Other organizations have had similar issues. MADD's founder, for example, has left the organization. Why ? Because the organization turned from being anti-drunk driving to being a temperance organization. Which wasn't the purpose.

Organizations lose focus every now and then. And get refocused.

I'd rather see some appreciation that they recognized their galactic class screw up, by letting political ideology drive them AWAY from their primary mission.

Their primary mission was supposed to be an end to breast cancer. You don't get there spending most of your money making more money for yourself and pharma/medical supply companies. Too little is spent on research for causes and which ones are worrisome and which are not. Forget that organization.

I agree with Pam. I think they have become one of those organizations that is more interested in staying in business than in seeking a cure; seeing as those two goals truly are mutually exclusive I have no time for them.

Seeking a cure is all well and good but is also a slippery slope towards being a money maker for pharma and medical supply companies. We have cures, what we need is prevention. Unfortunately cancer is a huge money maker.

And there are other organizations that one can give donations to that doing similar things.

Because they became temperance? I don't think so.

Charity Navigator rated MADD at 36.72 on its charity rating scale for the 2006/2007 fiscal year, based on it efficiency and capacity.[19] MADD reported that it spent 16% of its budget on fundraising that year.[19] Charity Navigator reported MADD's total revenue for the year as $49 million (US).[19]
In 2009 MADD took in $41,006,038 and paid salaries of $20,537,936, over half of their income.[20]
[edit]Activities and criticism

Radley Balko argued in a December 2002 article that MADD's policies are becoming overbearing. "In fairness, MADD deserves credit for raising awareness of the dangers of driving while intoxicated. It was almost certainly MADD's dogged efforts to spark public debate that effected the drop in fatalities since 1980, when Candy Lightner founded the group after her daughter was killed by a drunk driver," Balko wrote. "But MADD is at heart a bureaucracy, a big one. It boasts an annual budget of $45 million, $12 million of which pays for salaries, pensions and benefits. Bureaucracies don't change easily, even when the problems they were created to address change."[21] Charity Watch gives MADD an "C-" grade.[22]

...also seems there was a revolving door between MAAD and Komen

Quote
Chuck Hurley was MADD CEO from 2005-2010.[13] He retired in June 2010 and was replaced by Kimberly Earle, who had been CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure since 2007.[14] Earle left to work for Sanford Health in January 2012.[15] Debbie Weir was named MADD's new Chief Executive Officer.

Surgery, chemo, radiation, and various targeted drugs. Cancer is a huge, huge moneymaker. Why put money into research that stops it before the aforementioned are needed. No money to be made there.
