Party registrations decline

A USA TODAY analysis of state voter registration statistics shows registered Democrats declined in 25 of the 28 states that register voters by party. Republicans dipped in 21 states, while independents increased in 18 states.
The trend is acute in states that are key to next year's presidential race. In the eight swing states that register voters by party, Democrats' registration is down by 800,000 and Republicans' by 350,000. Independents have gained 325,000.

Now that more states are allowing open primaries, that makes it less worthwhile for most people to have a party registration. If you can vote in any party's primary what's the point for most people in registering for any particular party? If one of the few thing most people get out of registering for a party is to open themselves up to non-stop fundraising phone calls a bunch of mail containing fundraising requests, that's certainly a disincentive to staying registered with a political party as well.

Ted, I'm registered "no party affiliation", but it seems to attract double the junk mail 'cause now I get it from both sides.

I'd be interested in how many states now have open primaries. Not too many I'm thinking because in today's partisan political atmosphere, I'de have to assume that not many state legislatures would give up their control.

Seventeen states use an open party primary system, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin. Of these states, Hawaii, Minnesota and North Dakota conduct open caucus elections.

They don't use voter registration mailing addresses exclusively.
I get the dirt from E.Warren to the same wrong address as Hillary did in 2008 and BJ's still does. It's a glaring error from some mailing list. It would appear to be a computer generation error that persists on some list purchased somewhere.

In PA I registered Democratic, because it was the only way to vote on most local elections (the Republicans never ran).

The more open the process is, and the more people participate, the healthier this nation will be. Even if they disagree with me.

That would be why your GOP state senators and reps have been in a frenzy to block the vote and achieve the opposite of your stated intent?

Time someone took some mind altering meds to understand all this because your stated intent and actions taken by your party are diametrically opposed.

Justify this to us if you can!
