by those numbers, it would take 1,000 years for everyone to make the hajj.

Only if every country's population is 100% Muslim, and everyone can afford the trip. (You're only required to do it if you can afford it.)

No, this happens every year. Alas. Happens in the Christian world too, but usually at Rock Concerts and Soccer matches.
