House Intel hearing going on now

NYT has live coverage

So far? FBI director Comey confirms that the FBI was investigating Russian influence into the 2016 election (still is, apparently) and possible collusion between Trump team members and Russia.

He explained (in finally confirming the obvious) that the FBI doesn't usually comment publicly about ongoing investigations.

Unless they concern Democratic candidates, and it's shortly before the election.

No, he didn't really say that last part. But we already knew that was true.

The other bit so far is that Nunez again confirms that there's still no evidence to support Trump's assertion that Obama personally ordered a wiretap of Trump, but if the president and Fox News heard it, there must have been some leaking of confidential information, and he will not stop until such leakers (that...umm...there was no wiretap?) are punished.

I'm simultaneously impressed and incredibly frustrated by Comey's testimony. Not surprised, but not disappointed.

He is biding his time. If it comes clear that he can prove there was collusion, he wants to preserve that investigation's integrity and impact.

BTW, Steve G beat me to the punch.

Here's a interesting snippet from the Times coverage:

Quote

Mr. Comey said that he had consulted with the [Trump] Justice Department about whether to disclose the existence of the [Russian] investigation – something he had not done before he held a press conference in July to announce that there was not enough evidence to charge Mrs. Clinton with a crime.

But enough to offer a variety of negative opinions about Ms. Clinton.

...and if he had any consultation with Obama's AG 11 days before the election about publicly "reopening" the investigation due to the discovery of some duplicate Clinton emails, he apparently ignored their advice that he was treading on dangerously (and historically unprecedented) thin ice.

But IOKIIADC.

(It's OK if it's a Democratic candidate).

Meanwhile, under the cover of all this noise the Trumpers are sneaking in the beginning of the Gorsuch Supreme Court hearings today.
Ditto the Healthcare gutting maneuvers.

Too much posturing and rhetorical questions in an effort to push personal opinions of the interrogators. Real information cannot be disseminated due to ongoing investigations, which renders the hearing kind of dull for me.

I think the importance of the statement that Obama did not/could not wiretap Trump has been buried in a lot of yadayadayada.

Peter King sounds like Barney Frank doing an impression of Lou Ferrigno.

And while we're at it...

Exactly what is Tillerson up to talking to the Still-Commie Chinese?

My guess is, selling out the future energy independence of the U.S. for near term oil company profits and possibly cut the legs out from under North Korea.
