No, Korea was never part of China

So the Carl Vinson hasn't shown up near Korea yet, but that' s not the only Trump insult/lie rankling the peninsula.

Trump told the Wall Street Journal -- after getting a primer on regional geopolitics from Chinese President Xi Jinping -- that the Korean peninsula "actually used to be part of China."
South Korea's Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a daily briefing Thursday, announced the government's response to the comments.
"The Ministry is in the process of checking facts with both the US and China through various diplomatic channels," the ministry's spokesperson Cho June-hyuck said.
"The international community unequivocally acknowledges that Korea was never a part of China in its thousands of years of history that no one can deny the fact," he added.

Then Japan (thanks, TR... missed that one, dude..)

Then WWII saw the USSR and the US enter the power vacuum that the Japanese left, giving us the current North and South Korea.China's PRC was supported by the North Koreans, which saw PRC troops engage in the Korean War (See human wave attacks).

where does that say that Korea was part of China?

Japan did invade what is now North Korea and the Chinese saved "Korea" from that but I don't see anything that says Korea was part of China.

The Josen empire submitted to the Quing dynasty imperial tributary program to keep the peace. Not really 'part of the empire', but definitely a tighter relationship than just a line of trading agreements. So yeah, you are correct.

We Americans tend to have a shorter view of history. No question though that the Prezzie is, as usual, an idiot and has no idea what the heck he is talking about. Probably heard it from his buddy Alex Jones.

Define "part of China".

Parts of South Korea were at one time an extent of the Han Dynasty.

Much to Xi's chagrin if one were to go to Mongolia they would like to remind you that China and the Koreas were once part of the mighty Mongolian Empire as well.

I guess the South Koreans still think Trump and facts go together.
