Obamacare: Here we go again.

He is incapable of letting things go.

Quote

The White House is pushing for another showdown vote on repealing Obamacare next week, to coincide with President Donald Trump hitting his 100-day milestone in office.

...According to a draft of the tentative deal obtained by POLITICO, the latest proposal would allow states to apply for "limited waivers" that would undermine Obamacare's protections for pre-existing conditions. Under these waivers, states could opt out of Obamacare standards setting minimum benefits that health plans must offer and a requirement — called community rating — forbidding insurers from charging different prices to people based on health status. Both are provisions that the GOP’s ultraconservatives have pushed to eliminate as part of the repeal effort, contending that these coverage mandates drive up the cost of insurance.

So: Eliminate patient protections to satisfy far-right pain-caucus congressmen, but make it optional, to give moderates a fig leaf. And presumably, include a big tax break for rich folks, since they apparently need that for "tax reform" to come (ie giving them an even bigger tax break later).

Does anyone think this passes the Senate? Proceed, Mr. President.

He would be satisfied if a sentence was re-worded and passed. He's THAT petty and could not care less who has healthcare or not.

I hope anyone who votes for this, along with Trump, dies a slow horrible death.

Wait. Wasn't there something else going on next week?

Oh, yeah:

Quote

With just five workdays left until government funding expires, lawmakers return next week to all the same sticking points that have made full-year funding so elusive and now threaten a government shutdown.

It’s President Donald Trump’s first chance to put his imprint on the federal budget, and the White House is eager to deliver on campaign-trail promises including higher defense spending and curbing illegal immigration. Still, it’s unclear how hard the administration and GOP lawmakers will push. A government shutdown would begin on Trump’s 100th day in office and Republicans are desperate to show they can govern after their failed push to repeal Obamacare.

Newly energized Democrats have vowed to oppose Trump’s spending and policy priorities and are making demands of their own. With Democratic votes likely to be needed to pass any funding bill in the House and definitely needed in the Senate, the price of their votes may be concessions to protect Obamacare.

With his path strewn with past bankruptcies, Trump is hardly the business genius his backers think him to be. But it's also appearing more obvious daily that he hasn't got much political savvy either.

He is probably upset that he was so widely and viciously mocked when the first attempt failed. He doesn't want to be a Loser.

$tevie, I think that's absolutely true.

I think it would be better for the Republicans in this case to redefine success as leaving things as is.

This has been well-documented. They're going for a trillion in tax breaks for the 1% later when they get to the budget.

In order to do that, they need to demonstrate a trillion in savings from other sources and the first thing on the list is cutting out health care reimbursements and benefits for the poor and middle class. Mind you, that's just a start. It's hard to get to a trillion in cuts without eliminating a whole lot more. They want to cut any tax credits that don't specifically target millionaires, for example, starting with the credit for state income taxes.

If the republicans get their way, pretty much every government program and agency outside of the military will be stripped to the bone and many people who thought they had some security will end up begging on the streets.

This was my fear. Allow the Freedom Caucus to have what they want, and dress it up to seem like what moderate Republicans want.

On the other hand, knocking any of the core legs out from the ACA becomes ever-harder, as more people understand what makes it tick.

He wants a Wed vote and Congress doesn't get back till Tues. Good luck, 45.

He has spend all this time solving the N.K. problem it seems. Just like he told us during the campaign "don't worry. I'll solve all the problems".

Spicer was asked to name a legislative success for the first 100 days, and couldn't.

This is all about having a bill with at least the House approving by the end of that arbitrary deadline.

The only reason the Republicans might manage to repeal and replace is so that they can give massive tax cuts to the rich.

Mandate that the President, ALL US Senators and Congress members receive EXACTLY the same healthcare that US citizens get. No more; no less. Then we'll see a fair healthcare system. old fogey smiley

ACA repeal is one of the single biggest tax cuts currently in the pipeline.

Heh. WaPo today:

Quote

The White House is prodding Congress to vote on the “new” version of the health care bill, apparently because they really want an accomplishment to tout. But the Post reports:

Quote

… There was no deadline for finishing the legislation as of Thursday evening, and GOP leaders have not committed to plans for a Wednesday vote, according to one House GOP leadership aide.

On the other hand, not scoring the “new” legislation might improve its chances of passage.
