On another topic - Policewoman not guilty in Tulsa

Terence Crutcher was the guy whose SUV stalled near Tulsa. Police showed up, pointed guns and asked him to get on the ground. Instead, he walked slowly back toward his SUV with his hands up, and then put his hands on the car. He was shot by the police officer from behind, who said she was afraid he was reaching in the car for a gun. After he was shot, he laid on the concrete unattended by the police for several minutes.

He was unarmed. He did have drugs in his system. A Tulsa jury acquitted the officer after 9 hours deliberations.

If you want to review video of the event, it's at the link.

Tulsa has a history. In 2015, a little-trained "volunteer deputy" shot and killed a black man lying on the ground when he mistakenly fired his gun rather than his taser. And then there's this (which of course was a long time ago).

At least there were charges and a trial in this case. Officials have appealed for calm in the wake of the verdict.

Well, it looked like an unnecessary shooting to me.

The Philando Castile shooting in St. Paul is also going to trial soon. They're seeking second degree manslaughter. The lawyer of the officer that shot Castile (Yanez) had argued for a change of venue (unsuccessfully) but will be able to mention that Castile had THC (and only THC) in his blood.

One detail I hadn't heard earlier is that the 4 year old daughter of his girlfriend was in the back seat of the car when Castile was shot seven times. Yikes!

The victim was black so obviously it was a righteous shoot. The odd thing was that it took nine hours for the verdict.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.
