"Russia probe reaches current WH official"

...relates the WaPo today, citing people familiar with the matter.

Quote

The senior White House adviser under scrutiny by investigators is someone close to the president, according to these people, who would not further identify the official.

People familiar with the investigation said the intensifying effort does not mean criminal charges are near, or that any such charges will result.

Sessions? Tillerson? Kushner?

I'm betting McGhan...which could be handy. Remember John Dean?

Bets are on Kushner. However the list of possibilities is long.

I can understand why, but is Kushner a "White House official"?

I thought his title was "son-in-law".

Isn't there still a Flynn-Russian mole still on the National Security Council? Seems to me NSA McMaster cleaned house after Flynn Facts was canned but McMaster was forced by Pres. Trump to keep the mole on the Council. My money is on that person.

What a sleezy thing to try and do. I am not at all surprised. Since there is no evidence of collusion, according to DT, why doesn't he just let the guy do his job?

He can also do what Nixon did, order the DOJ to fire Mueller. Then fire whomever refuses if they do not resign.

I think it's Kushner, and related to Russian banks and loans to Trump businesses that were quid pro quo for political advantage. It could have been done without directly involving Donald Trump.

Trump has obstructed justice to protect someone and there seems to be a cover-up underway. Not sure he'd do that for an employee but for a son-in-law, yes.

Interesting. Kushner's Dad went to jail for white collar crimes related to real estate. You'd think the son would be more cautious.

I saw an interview with one of the Washington Post reporters and the person conducting the interview implied it was Kushner and it wasn't disputed during the interview. I didn't think it was going to be him because I hadn't really thought of him as a "senior" White House adviser even with all of his involvement. Mostly because he wasn't specifically appointed to a position. I wonder if Christie has laughed about this since he was the one that put Kushner's dad in jail.

That's exactly how I was thinking. But we are both wrong:
Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump and one of his closest confidants, will join the White House as a senior adviser to the president, Trump announced Monday, while a lawyer assisting the family said that Kushner's wife, Ivanka Trump, will not immediately take on a formal role.

Kushner, who will not take a salary...

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will become a senior White House adviser working on trade and the Middle East, transition officials said on Monday, in a rare case of a close presidential family member taking a major job.

Kushner, 35, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, is taking the post after receiving legal counsel that doing so would not violate U.S. anti-nepotism law, transition officials said. The position, unlike Cabinet posts, does not require U.S. Senate confirmation, and Kushner will not be paid.

Not only is Christie probably laughing about it, he's positively gleeful, as it was probably Jared that pushed Christie out if serious contention for a top post.
