There's no public discussion, no hearings. on TrumpCare. Is this America?
Time for the GOP to delete Republic from Republicans. These people are traitors.

They're having a heck of a time just trying to convince 50 people to be in favor of it, the last thing they want is to try to convince 300 million people.

i'm not saying that they couldn't find a really really dumb way to make it work -

but i just don't see it happening.

and if they had that way, they did not benefit from waiting so long to bring it out.

GOPer #1: Well, we've been investing our entire reputation as a party on our ability to get rid of Obamacare for seven years now, and if we fail now we will surely lose our seats in Congress!

GOPer #2: But if we pass a bill that screws our core constituents just so that we can return billions of dollars to the super rich, won't we lose our seats eventually anyway?

GOPer#1: That sounds like next election cycle's problem!

GOPer#2: Excellent point! Fuck the poor!!!

I like both versions of that. I think there are two primary drivers of the Republicans possibly actually passing this monstrosity - one is the fear of their base rebelling against them for not fulfilling the oft-repeated promise to get rid of the demon thing Obama foisted on the country and the other is a really strong desire to give a massive tax cut to the wealthy. Those imperatives seem to be compelling the Republicans to go the "sounds like next election cycle's problem" route.

Actually, that may not be as foolish as it sounds; at least not in terms of how the Republicans have used the tactic of breaking norms to deal with the next election cycle problem in the next election cycle. Keep doubling down by breaking more norms and you win. You win state governments. You win the House. You win the Senate. You win a seat on the Supreme Court you shouldn't have. You win the Presidency by nominating the embodiment of doubling down by breaking norms. Norms of decency, norms of fairness and justice, democratic norms and norms of governance - norms of government ethics in particular. They may just get away with it. Hopefully they won't.

BTW, Cruz's "Consumer Freedom Option" was immediately panned:

Quote

“It is simply unworkable in any form and would undermine protections for those with pre-existing medical conditions, increase premiums and lead to widespread terminations of coverage for people currently enrolled in the individual market,” Blue Cross Blue Shield and America’s Health Insurance Plans said Friday in a rare joint letter to Senate leaders.

"Unworkable in any form". This seems to be Cruz's legislative specialty, and he insists in it's presence in the bill:

Quote

It had been an open question whether Senate GOP leaders would include the amendment in the base legislation they unveiled Thursday, with Cruz promising he would vote against it if it was not.

Mr. My-way-or-the-highway strikes again. Would someone tell me one more time why this unctuous cretin is in the Senate?

Yeah, Districts 29, 33, and 35 above may outgerrymander the original:
