China states NK position

China has stated that if North Korea strikes first, and the US responds militarily - it will remain neutral. However, China will not allow the US or SK to overthrow the North Korea's government.

So the US can strike back, but only in kind. Essentially China has said an operation like the first Persian Gulf War is okay (Iraq's army was destroyed but Hussain was left in power).

The important and unanswered question is - if North Korea sends missiles into the 200-mile economic exclusion zone around Guam, but outside the 12-mile international border, is that a first strike? China's answer to that question is undoubtably different than the Trump administration.

I often wonder what about North Korea is to China's benefit ? Perhaps they act as a land barrier to invasion from South Korea, but ... well, China's borders are so vast AND shared with credible enemies (Cough.. Russia.. cough) that that one isn't likely.

So Why ? Qui bono ?

That's similar to my question - if a announced test fire lands 30km from Guam, it is outside the 12-mile territorial waters (but inside the 200-mile exclusion zone). How is that judged in international terms?
